1988 Porsche 959 - NEVER USED!

VIN: WP0ZZZ95ZJS900288

There were 288 of these supercars built by Porsche between 1987 and 1988, including preproduction and race cars. This is the "LAST" 959 that rolled out of the Porsche factory in 1988. There are only 349 miles (factory test miles) on this rare Porsche 959!

This gorgeous 959 has been stored since brand new in 1988. It was received by Canepa Design with the original factory cosmoline finish.

The Porsche 959 was by far the most technologically advanced sportscar when it was introduced in 1985. Their timeless design, state-of-the-art systems, and superior driving characteristics make them still one of the greatest sports cars of all time!

And last week, still in the hard shipping wax (Cosmoline)

Did you spot the silver 959 in the background of the first photgraph showing the hard shipping wax? 2 out of 288 in the same garage awsome!

Wow thats cool.

I just wonder what goes thru' the head of these owners, completely understand keeping it cosy but wouldnt you want to have it on display to look at? When do they decide ok now time to sell?

Must take some real self-control, I'm useless with wine or chocolate I'd never be able to tuck something like this away.

They probably bought a few, so one to tuck away and one to use. Like I do with special edition bottles of whisky. One to drink and one to keep Very Happy
If they want it original as possible, would then not be better off selling it with the cosmoline still in place?
Would it have been good to have it service regularly during this time and kept in running order? I realise it would be from a mechanical point of view, but what about from a resale point of view?

I fear this is destined to never be driven. It would be great is some billionaire who wasn't around when they were new decided to buy it, get it up and running, and really enjoy it. That would be about as close as you could get to a time machine back to the 80's.

I'm sure I read somewhere about what it takes to get one of these unused cars back in running order again and the figure was c.£20k. I imagine this would be to deal with perished rubbers, and bearings that may have seized up or dried out. Anyone know for sure?

Still, an awesome car.

The closest i got to owning one was in SCX slot-car form Grin . 4wd and a screamer of a motor, it used to properly wear out the ribbed tread pattern of the tyres and reduce them to slicks.

Dropping £20k on one of these (well specifically this one) will be peanuts, and if the dealer is worth their salt, they will have this done prior to delivery included in the price.

And yes, I did notice the silver one.

But that is the kind of machinery (art?) this dealer trades.

The Cosmoline is a bit of an odd one, as now it is "out of its box", but I suppose you can't sell a car like this looking like that.

Plus you could argue, now the clock is ticking the new owner might aswell use it properly!

@GT4: Canepa Design in Cal are famous for sourcing/ stocking such exotic vehicles, and if I remember correctly, the company is family-owned and prizes itself on good service... Either way, whether through good practice or just necessary practice (esp. in Cali), I am certain that the US$20k (or whatever is necessary to prep the vehicle) shall have been factored into the asking price!
