Is a 991 S worth 10k more than a Carrera.

To me there does not seam to be much difference in 0-60 times and top speed in real world driving conditions.

The Carrera is 12% cheaper and if that related to the Carrera S the top speed should be 200 mph and 0-60 time of 4.0 seconds.

If you have plenty of money people will probably buy the Carrera S but what about value for money.
 
Consider the 997 Carrera v Carrera S

3.6 Carrera was 345bhp and 0-60 in 5.0 secs and onto 176 mph
3.8 Carrera S was 385bhp and 0-60 in 4.7 secs and onto 185 mph

and still almost a £10k difference, but from what I see on the roads the 3.8 S must have outsold the 3.6 Carrera 4 to 1

It's the spec of the 3.8 S that made it so desirable ie by the time you had added them to the 3.6, you might as well had got a 3.8 S!

TBH, I dont know the exact spec differences on what is standard on the 3.8 by an option on the 3.6, does any one ?
 
If the 997 is anything to go by you'll feel the hit when you're selling on the basic model. They just don't shift... (sorry non-S owners, it doesn't mean they aren't great cars).

Go for the S
 
You can't just look at the 0-60 and and top speed figures alone, it will be better specced and the larger capacity and incresed torque will make differences in everyday driving situations and no doubt sound better. I'm not the least bit surprised the S is outselling the standard carrera, though I'm sure the base model is still a worthy motor...
 
afaik the differences are:
PTV £890
20" wheels £971
PASM £1133
Uprated brakes and the uprated engine. the X50 option used to be about £8k from memory, so there's your £10k+

Oh and the S badge...
