Nothing communicates the Miami Vice-era coke-dealer ethos like a slantnose Porsche 911 Turbo. Nothing, that is, except this 1986 Rinspeed Porsche 911 R69.

The loony Swiss outfit put its twist on the Flachbau by adding hot pink paint, color-matched wheels, the requisite body kit, and Testarossa-inspired side slats. Inside, Rinspeed installed power seats, the best hi-fi audio 1986 had to offer, and steering-wheel controls that would give Ray LaHood a nervous breakdown today.

True to the era that spawned it, this car's looks were dated almost before it left the factory floor.

In a strange way, though, that's part of its appeal. If you've got $79,000 to pony up, this Rinspeed R69, claimed to be the only one in the U.S., can be yours.

Although with an original price of $168,000 back in 1986, that's not too bad for 26 years of depreciation, although the value of $168,000 in today's money is more like $375,000!

More pics over the next few posts.

Nice steering wheel Smile

Hi

That is very special. I love the buttons. Buttons = power.

I think only certain people could drive a car like that, both then and now. I am not one of them.

I saw a 80's 911 Turbo in dark blue with a mild period body kit parked up yesterday. Looked really nice. I can imagine myself in that.

Utterly bonkers, although the pink paint looks more like UV faded red?

Rinspeed did some insane stuff in the 80's as can be seen on 1000SEL.com....

http://www.1000sel.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=18&Itemid=17

Enter the Rinspeed 939 or R39 (why R39? Too close to Porsche's own numbering?)

(9)11+(9)28 = 939; with the Goldmember edition included.

She likes rubber!

Some more 969 (R69) shots:

And a cab version of the 969!

Wonder if this is a period shot of the one on ebay?

R29:

R79:

R49:

R59:

R89 (964 based):

They became much more sensible in the new millennium though:

Reminds me of GTA Vice City. Although I love this car. I don't think I'd have the balls to drive it lol.

Here's mine. This would be the ideal car for me if I still dressed like this:

And yes, that is the remnants of a mullet. I recall having it 'trimmed' by 6 inches specially for that holiday to Torremolinos in 1987...... Embarassed

Alex, you're up! thumbsup
