Spied Again: 2012 911 Carrera shows new wheels

If there was ever a prize for the most spied car this year, it should go to the new Porsche 991, which we will come to know as the latest generation of the 911. Our spy shooters have caught up with a variety of prototypes ranging from the standard Carrera coupe all the way up to the Turbo Convertible.

This time they snagged what looks to be either the Carrera or the Carrera S, possibly in final production trim as the car was fitted with the white protective strips we normally find on vehicles that are to be transported. There's also a tag on the passenger seat, but we couldn't zoom close enough to make out what it says.

Being that Porsche has not yet officially revealed the new 911, the gunmetal-grey model was also fitted with the misleading (and rather funny looking) decals on the headlamps and tail lights.

Hiding under the familiar silhouette is a new 3.4-litre boxer with 350HP / 345 BHP for the Carrera and an updated 3.8-litre flat-six with around 400HP / 395BHP for the sportier Carrera S

The 2012 Porsche 911 will make its first public outing at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September. Until then, enjoy our latest spy pictures in the gallery below.

I really don't like it.

The front end just doesn't flow into the rest of the car like previous models.

It's clearly had a crash at the front.

And why is it wearing a see-through bra?

:floor: Has anyone on here actually got one on order yet ? (I don't
mean a letter of intent, might rescind mine...looks ugly to me). :nooo:

Paul, was that an affirmative....you got one on order ?

I see they are still collecting for the "Retired Radiators and Condensors Workers Union Benevolent Fund"

Yes I've got a deposit down :paperbag:

......I'm sure that whatever you get, it'll drive well, just can't imagine a
GT car without the old engine and that noise (when it appears in 2013)..

That's the name..... :worship:

I can't see the appeal...why does anyone want a bigger 911?

I'm at that point where a road car should be a means of fast comfy transport that you can put some stuff in and some people and it's functional first & fun 2nd. Still needs to be fun tho'. I can't see the point of a non GT 911, it's never going to cut it as a track toy and is a severely compromised (functionally) road car. Not trying to be obnoxious just struggling to see the point of a modern "Carrera" :?:

I struggle (sometimes literally) with the size of modern cars full stop.

Our country is too small, the back roads are too small, the flippin' car parking spaces at supermarkets are too small (Waitrose excepted).

I will need a double garage if I buy anything wider.
