Been to Stuttgart to get my fill on Porsche History. The Porsche Museum is fantastic and it seems not only to porschephyls. The better half was also impressed. As Dart Vader would put it "A few more steps closer to join the dark side" Only from my point of view Porsche is the good side. Alas I could not book a tour of the factory on time. Maybe next time. Visited the Merc museum too of course. Do not go for the recent Mercs and even the sporty ones but thier past is as facinating as Porsche's and the classics are as juicy!

Porsche Centrum Stuttgart is right opposite the museum and we paid the showroom a vist where my wife's blood boiled at seeing a 2008 Boxster S in dark brown (macadamia) with beige interiore. Never mind the performance as long as the coulour matches the curtains :hand: I won't complain, better a Boxster S than a visit to Cartier

You need to recaption this :), its not a flat 12, it is the unique flat 16 917 engine which was canned when turbocharging the flat 12 proved a success

does Porsche maintain all the museum pieces in running condition?

I love seeing historic cars, but it depresses me when i see them parked up and not able to turn a wheel...

To the best of my knowledge everything in the museum collection (which is way larger than just those on show) are all fully functional

The 917L, 917/30, 908/3 and 935 baby which are regularly seen at Goodwood FOS and similar events worldwide are all part of the museum collection

Got me! But with a user name like 917 I couldn't expect any better!

My god, I need to do some more reading on Porsches. Of course I could have counted the inlet ports (16) but assumed that there was only a flat 12 as a max and didn't even notice.

Always happy to be corrected.

One hopes to make the pilgrimage soon. Nice pictures fella thanks for sharing :thumb:

I recently took my 993 on a road trip to the museum and came across this in the car park. Apologies for the picture quality but my camera had packed up, so I had to use the phone.

It seems the museum uses its car park as additional storage as there were a number of other race cars scattered throughout. What's surprising is that they're just parked in amongst the punters cars. Even if you don't drive to get there it could be worth taking a look round the car park. If you do drive, take your parking ticket in with you to get it validated.

Appologies to the OP for going slightly off topic, but I also have this GT1 in my UT 1:18 scale model collection, just gorgeous. Must visit the museum to see the real thing!

The closest I'm going to get to this GTI is the Warsteiner beer advertised on the lower bit below the air intake (er... is that called an air dam or spoiler?)

I think the round-headlight 993 GT1 is for me the Porsche god, with the GT2 as his noble side-kick

Yep. Should definitely have the round headlight GT1 in the main display instead of the fried eggs model! Looks so much nicer!!
