911uk are happy to recommend CAT Driver Training for your Driver Training requirements.

Get the best from your car – with 1:1 driver training from CAT Driver Training
www.catdrivertraining.co.uk

Looking for new ways to improve your driving performance? Want to be faster on the track, stay safer out on the road/or simply discover the grip limit capability of your Porsche? Explore your potential with CAT Driver Training and gain a greater understanding of just how much you and your car can do!

You will have seen us on Fifth Gear. If you read Evo Magazine, you will recognize our Chief Instructor, Colin Hoad, as one of their Experts.

We provide driver training for race drivers, race engineers, performance car drivers and individuals wanting to improve their driving for both leisure and work, as well as the motor industry and corporate events. All training is 1:1* and takes place out on the road or on the tracks at Millbrook Proving Ground in Bedfordshire, UK. **

Assume nothing – learn everything!

- Learn how to keep your car stable and balanced at all times and in all conditions – with minimal driver input for maximum performance.
- Understand better the relationship between vehicle dynamics and driver inputs.
- Step beyond your comfort zone to a new relationship with your car – for better performance.

At CAT we help you bridge the gap between driving a vehicle at its limits and exploring the dynamic reactions when you input into the controls. Using your own vehicle or one of our Caterham's, Subaru, Lotus, Saab or Ford, we coach and mentor you 1:1 with your instructor alongside you in the car. Plus, because of the nature of the Millbrook tracks, during your training, you can stop on track at any time to discuss aspects of your driving. No matter what race circuit you are looking to drive you will gain the tools to analyse and drive it for the best results.

Out on the road or at speed on the track, all our training is structured and safe – yet immensely challenging and enjoyable. We teach things that other trainers don't even mention, and we explain everything to suit your own current skills and know-how. You don't just learn new techniques, but you also understand why they're important and what's really happening underneath you while you're driving. You enjoy a bespoke programme based around what you'd like to achieve.

- Advanced Road and Track Development
- Track Day Drivers: Novice; Intermediate; Warrior/Race Driver
- Performance Driver
- 5 day Academy Programme
- Nurburgring Preparation
- Drifting & Over Grip Limit Handling
- Evaluation Driver Training – for motor industry engineers
- Fleet/Company Car Driver Training

Colin Hoad, the Director of CAT Driver Training, has spent over 25 years in the specialist motor industry. Motor racing at the age of 18 he enjoyed a rewarding career in motorsport preparation and management. He then moved into the vehicle evaluation and driver training industry with a major Japanese motor manufacturer.

Teaching industry standard advanced driving techniques on circuit, Proving Ground and out on the public highway, Colin's unique training qualifications from the motor industry has seen him working throughout the UK, extensively in Europe, Scandinavia and Russia as well as the Nurburgring (Nordschleife) as a test driver.

All of our instructors are hand picked and trained to deliver CATs unique brand of training - we do not pick from a large pool of instructors. The quality and consistency of our delivery combined with the consistent high scores from feedback could not be achieved if we did. Each instructor brings specialist skills and qualifications to match the services we provide. As importantly they are warm, engaging personalities dedicated to your driving development.

About Millbrook – our main base for training activities

Centrally located in Bedfordshire Millbrook Proving Ground is about 5 miles from junction 13 of the M1. It is one of Europe's leading locations for the development and demonstration of every type of land vehicle. The consequence of this custom-built facility means you have the perfect arena to develop your driving knowledge and technique.

The purpose built circuits allow us to break down your natural driving style into the core components used everyday and on track. Braking, Cornering, Low and High Speed driving as well as Observation and limit handling are all explored in a variety of scenarios that are difficult to find anywhere else in one place.

The art of driving is dissected into manageable bite size learning chunks, building your mental toolbox and making your new found techniques systematic. The skills you develop will be taken into your road driving for your safety and apply for track enthusiasts at any circuit.

A training session with CAT will always start with the core areas of braking and observation. No matter what level of experience you arrive with, these key aspects to your driving will be explored. Depending on your objectives and itinerary you could find yourself on the Mile Straight for 15 minutes or up to 90 minutes working through the many braking techniques: Threshold; High G; ABS; Linear; Pedal Exit; Heel & Toe; and Left Foot Braking.

Time on the High Speed Circuit looking at high speed driving and observation follows, before moving onto exploring the many and varied cornering techniques that can be used. The combination of the Handling Circuit and Alpine Loops provides practically every type of corner you will drive through. Exploration of real time understeer and oversteer completes the standard itinerary for our clients on their first visit to us. The combination of your learning experience with CAT and the Millbrook facility makes a powerful duo, which truly accelerates your learning curve.

There are many courses to choose from, it all depends on what your objectives are.
The 1/2 day Gift Experience using our cars start at £595 for a 3 hour session with 2 hours actual driving time.
The Track Day Novice/Intermediate/Warrior course is 4 hours long with 3 hours driving time and is £700 in your car.
Performance Driver & Nurburgring Preparation Courses are full days - just short of 8 hours long with 5.5 hours driving time. Both are £1200 using your car.
Having taken the Performance Driver Course you are then working through the Academy Programme which is 5 days in duration. Taken consecutively or a day at a time, this programme is designed to progress your knowledge of limit handling, high speed driving and vehicle dynamics to a professional and industrial level.

All prices are current and include VAT at 20%. Refreshments/lunch are included. Our training is recognised by Competition Car Insurance, Adrian Flux & Sky Insurance who all offer discounts on policies (both road and track) as a result.

Our car club format http://catdrivertraining.co.uk/road/car-clubs-forums/ is enjoyed by many car clubs and we will look to offering this to 911uk members for Spring 2011. As we need the longer hours of daylight the Performance Driver 'Track' Day format runs from March to October.

If you are interested in this day drop me a PM and I'll then let you know as soon as the date is proposed for the new year. Current prices start from £390 per person based on a group of 6.

For anyone else that's reading this, I did one of the 'one on one' days about a month ago and took my Atom to get a better feel for the car.

I got so much out of it, that I am likely to do it again fairly soon in one of my other cars because as well as learning about yourself (and I know I can learn more) I learnt so much about the car itself that it changed my whole perspective on it.

I can highly reccommend the guys at Cat Driver training (so much so I've asked them to partner up on my own site as well)

A friend of mine who works at Milbrook says that their reputation is the best in the industry

Hi Jo,
can you please PM with the cost of a 4 man group with one instructor.

Thanks

Daniel - I've just sent you a PM but as it's the first here, will you confirm safe receipt please? I didn't manage to work out how to keep a copy  and so really hope it does find its way safely to you :thumb:

Apologies for the delay in responding, Friday went to pot and Saturday we had an event so I've only just been able to come back to you.

Look forward to hearing you have indeed received it :)

Well I've now sent you another one ... but possibly being a techno numpty don't understand why it's sitting in the 'outbox' rather than the 'sent box'?

Hopefully you'll eventually get that as it has my recommendation for you.

If not, a phone call might have to take place :pc:

Group Drifting & Over Grip Limit Handling Course

We run a unique and very popular group course at Millbrook for the car clubs we work with and I wondered if this would be of interest to 911uk members?

There are 4 places on each course - the overview of the day as follows:

Learn the secrets of over limit handling using your car and our Caterham 7.

A 5.5 hour experience for 4 owners covering the building blocks of vehicle control at grip limit.

A fast moving sideways experience. Designed to build on the skills learnt on the Performance and Cornering Masterclass club days or as an introduction to the techniques of over grip limit driving for the novice, our instructors will tailor the training to your level of experience.

Understand and practice the building blocks of over grip limit driving. It is not just 'nailing" the accelerator and relying on instinct. A drift is the culmination of many core skills polarized into one extreme exercise. All explained and demonstrated by your instructor and practiced by you.

Enjoy the challenge of our very sideways Caterham, and experience the dynamic characteristics and capability of your own car as it realises its true potential at grip limit. Invaluable information for those owners wanting to maximise its potential and enjoyment of their car on track.

Your training session will include presentations on:
Understeer
Oversteer
Lift Off Oversteer
Roll Oversteer
Weight Transfer at Turn In
Tyre Grip Trade Off
Identifying Grip Limit
Breaking Traction

Your training will include an experience of a wetted as well as a dry surface on the Steering Pad/Mile Straight Apron at the Millbrook Proving Ground.

There is also be a bottle of Champagne for the best Drifting God on the day

Members Price £295 per person

Please note:
Caterham 7 Specific: Minimum/maximum height 5'0/6'4 Maximum weight of 18 stone

If this is of interest please register your interest here and I'll look for a date to offer you in the coming months.
