Total 911 have an article comparing the 996 to 997 Turbo. In it I read they both came with the tiptronic option but the 997 for the first time was quicker than the manual transmission. I thought this wasn't the case, they were deffinately reffereing to tiptronic.

Is this correct?

how did it differ from the tiptronic available to the rest of the Gen1 range?

:?

Yes it's correct the tip in the 997 turbo is quicker than the manual by a couple of points of a second.

Not different but the ability of the turbo meant that a quicker gear change enabled the turbo to work better and achieve the quicker time

in mid 2008 the 997 got the twin clutch tiptronic gearbox (PDK) which change faster than manuals - same thing as in the most recent m3/rs4 etc.. not available on the 996

not quite a PDK as the Turbo and the latest version is curently only available with a 5-speed automatic transmission with gearshift controls on steering wheel, PDK is only 2009 997's so far

Turbo PDK due out for 2010

Also RS4 has never had a twin clutch, yet.....

Thanks for the replies. It it essentially the same tip box available to the rest of the range just better matched to the Turbo?
