Stone chips advice

I had my car fully polished and waxed and today I gave it a nice wash myself (did not want to take it to someone else for a car wash :) )
The car in the bonnet has a number of stone chips none of the deep enough but I am thinking how I will make them invisible :)
Options are
a) DIY paint touch or whatever system is available (seen few ideas around)
b) Specialist company to remove the chips at relatively low cost
c) Re-spray the bonnet

The car by the way is midnight blue.
Any advice from the most experience members ? I am in North West London by the way so if I go for either b or c does anybody recommends anyone ? What about the cost of re-spraying the bonnet ? What shall I expect
By the way my wife tells me that is waste of time as when the 1st chip appears after whatever I do I will be p.... off......

Thanks

Theo

Depends if you are at all handy and the extent of the chips, you could DIY no probs, cocktail stick and patience leaving the paint to harden for a week is advised before trying to smooth. At least chips are protected from attack.

Specialist should do a very good job...chat to them on the phone to understand what they can/cant do but get some refs and take pics before hand just in case you are not happy.

I wouldnt bother getting bonnet resprayed unless its really bad, you're only going to get more so could be wasting money unless of course you are selling. If going this route then you might want to consider getting a the front end Paintshielded to prevent recurrence.

Just wonder if you have bonnet chips surely you must have chips on the bumper/PU as well, its a case of where do you stop as sprayed bonnet without PU done could look bad so they often blend....and thats more money....and then someone goes and bumps you....

Its one of the biggest dilemmas we 911 owners face...I've held off 2 years so far but think I will get it sorted this year.

I bought one of these kits last year but still have not used it. Mainly because it needs a clean but might actually get round to it today. They are supposed to be pretty good.

Looks a worrying kit.. A Glove, some lube, a towel and some pointy things - What do we think is going to happen here today - :puh:

Dan,

One has to make one's own enjoyment nowadays as I have been married for 10 years!!!...(god, has it been that long, I could have murdered her and been out by now! ;))

I bought the Dr Color Chip kit after this excellent 911uk review Dr Color Chip

I used it about 4 weeks ago, covered any road rash up well but was by no means a 'miracle' cure. I would use it again though :thumb:

I have used it

So Dr ColorChip looks like a good DIY solution
Also have seen this on ebay which looks ok on paper and is not expensive either

Anybody has used the above or knows where to find a review ?

I have used this kit and agree it is not a miracle cure, however it is relatively inexpensive, but it takes some patience, all in all a good idea if you are not short of time..... if you are however......

hope that helps :thumb:

I used a kit which was basically some cutting compaound paint, pointy cotton bud and some p1000 wet n dry. You basically fill the chip with paint and then rub it down gently, then use the rubbing compound to remove the grit swirls. I did this on my old B7 rs4 bonnet and had I been a bit patient the result would of been excellent. I made the mistake of not filling the chip with enough paint. The problem is I only had enough balls to rub it down a couple of times and after that I thought Im buggered if im going to rub through the laqueor around the chip. But patience and a delicate hand will net a really good results. On places like detailing world there are some good examples of what people have acheived with chips and scratches and some are invisible. As has been said with many a task like this, the secret is in the prep.

Chips Away due to sort the bonnet on my daily driver on Thursday. If it is good enough I might let them lose the few chips on my 993 tt. Will let you know on Thursday and try to post a before and after picture so you can see the difference.

Any update ? Did they do any good job ?

They did a very good job, charged me £130 to fix a scrape on the rear bumper and did the stone chips for free with the extra paint. You can't see the scrape on the bumper at all. The chips are visible from close range i.e. within 3 feet if you are looking for them. The colour match is perfect but there is an imperfection on the surface where the chip was. Overall a great job, my neighbour saw it and has them booked for next week to sort the chips on his Merc.

Will take photo and post it in a while

Heres a photo of bonnet stood at side of passenger side wing.
