Battery died. Bonnet opened by attaching power supply to fuse panel.
Replaced battery with new item .
When i turn the ignitiion off and remove the keys the clock flashes for the time to be adjusted and the digital panels in the dashboard clocks stay on.
Any ideas how to solve this. It seems to be an intermittent problem and does not happen every time i remove the keys.

?????? :?:

the digital panels in the dashboard stay on for a length of time anyway if memory serves me right .

if you lock the car after removing the keys do they go out...

The fact that the clock is flashing suggests that perhaps you might need to give the adjustment buttona few jabs.

I have tried jabbing the button and setting the clock , pulling the fuse and re inserting it hoping that it is because there has been no power connected due to the defective battery but this was also unsuccessful.
Wondering if it could have been caused by powering up through the fuse box which was done by the break down service when the battery died and the car locked the boot and bonnet.
Looks like it isnt going to be an easy one to solve.

How about disconnecting the entire battery, waiting a few minutes and then reconnecting it. Might fix a glitch.

I have tried disconnecting and reconnecting the battery and that didn't help either'. Anymore suggestions are welcome.

The ignition key unit (i.e. the bit you put the key into, not sure of the correct name!) is prone to failure, and I have heard of the odd failure of the intrument panel units themselves. Might that be something to do with it?

Or might you have killed something when you powered up the car thru the fune box.

Either way, sounds like you need to visit a specialist... :dont know:

Did you get a solution to this?

Hi

I have the exact same problem so I'm hoping you found a solution? (its an old post so it may be wishful thinking I know!)

Thanks

Can you explain in a little more detail your problem please ..

This is a very old post and way before i joined here .

Do you get any beeps when locking the car ?

Does the key lock the car on the remote ?

Your battery goes flat ?

Hi

Replaced the battery, everything appears to work fine. Car starts, remote locking works, clock can be set. Then when I get out of the car the button on the key locks the car, but the dashboard lights up, and the clock (hour) starts to flash (like it would on start up if it hadn't been set).
I had the ignition block replaced as I thought this was the issue because there was a definite problem with the ignition not turning off properly etc. The car has been in my garage for a couple of months and today I went to it and the battery was dead (despite being connected to a trickle charger). I started it with a booster and went for a drive, whilst out the dash lights kept fading and coming back, and the radio was going on and off as if there wasn't quite enough power in the battery. After being out for a bout an hour I returned home, turned off the car and then tried to restart it, but the battery was still dead. It was at this point that I replaced the battery and noticed the issue on the dashboard on locking up. I'm assuming therefore that the issue will drain the battery, but I can't be certain

Thanks

When you had the ignition lock replaced was it with a genuine Porsche part or a VW lock switch pack only ?

You replaced the battery then went for a drive .. so a fully charged battery but it was dead when you got back .. or did you replace the battery after you got back from your drive ?

If the key fob locks the car then then the car knows the key is out of the ignition .

The cluster should turn off when the car is locked but obviously it isnt ..

The clock will only flash when you press the time adjuster ..

Need someone to confirm for me but i dont remember the clock flashing after a flat battery or a battery replacement ..

This part is pretty important as a fault like this if im correct would tend to indicate a faulty instrument cluster .

First things first though .. please confirm what was replaced on the ignition lock and if you actually used the car and it has been ok since this has been done .. if you havent then its possibly linked to the ign. lock work .
