Discounting on new cars

There is an article in one of the papers today on heavy discounting by official retailers on quite a few different car makes. Porsche was not mentioned (only Jag, VW, Ford etc.) but this is a tactic they have resorted to in the past albeit in order to get rid of a sea of 944s and 968s.

Does anyone have recollection of porsches actions in the past / experiences in OPCs at present or thoughts on the direction they might take. Residuals are obviously very important to their customer base and i would have thought discounting would be an absolute last resort in a survival only situation.

I am sure I heard Porsche UK have around 4,000 unsold Gen 1 997's with Money off them !

What you after Edward ?
 
Forgvie me but what is the difference between the reference to Gen 1 and Gen 2.

I'm in the market for a 997 but I must admit I'm sitting tight until the spring - just don't want to buy at the wrong time
 
gen 2 is the facelifted version - sort of - that's been available for few months now. gen 1 is going to be discounted to shift stock sitting around so good op for a discount there!
 
I too understand that you can get a hefty discount off a Gen1 997 (pre-facelift). Not sure if they are supplying them as new and unregistered or pre-registered cars??

Not quite discounting but nearly - I have heard of VERY strong part-exchange values againts new Gen2 cars.
