hi guys,

This is my first foray into porsche land. I have coveted the 911 since a boy ( many moons ago) and now find myself in a position where i can purchase.

I have decided on the 964 c4 and have begun my research.
I would welcome any and all help as i have only driven one once ( a 996 s and was then persued by a bloodthirsty porsche rep for months until he eventually got the message)

So guys . web sites for 964 sales> i know 911 virgin (apt i think) eporsche, portiacraft, etc.

All comments gratefully received.
Regards BP :D

hi,

I've only recently got my 964, a C4 Cabrio, and am still grinning like a fool.

Check out some of the posts on here from about 3 or 4 months ago, there are several enquiries such as yours, and comments from members who have experience of buying from many of the specialists named.

Two that come to my mind straight away are eporsch in chertsey, surrey, and Stirlings, (Stirlings is a user of this forum, but not sure how often he gets 964's).

Anyway, I'm loving it. there's a plethora of experience and good advice on here.

At the moment there are several 964's on ebay, just search for porsche 964, I'm not saying buy off ebay, (although I did). but you'll get an eye for what you get for your money

Theres a Turbo 2 on there for 6100, at the moment, but no bidders, average seems to be between 12 and 16K.

Good hunting

thankyou mate.
Stirling is a new one for me so i will check them out.
must admit to being a tad jealous of your purchase.
Any gremlins to report?
how was the buying process?
did you get an independant in to assess?
what publications(if any) did you use?

This may be a hack of the sellers ebay account if not then appologies if its genuine  , this is a classified add price so the price you pay.

These cars should easily hit £25K + if in good order. You would struggle to find a good SC for that price. Good luck in your hunting.

A 964 now should have had the little gremlins fixed by now, long term ownership is always a good sign as well as folder of bills. Doesn't do away with a good inspection though.

Good luck in your hunting.

Cheers Darren

well, my advice is don't do what I did, because.......

I flew in the face of all the advice. I was in the other side of the world when I bid for the car, bought it based because it was the colour/spec/model I wanted

and I based my gut feeling on the background pics were a big posh house, it had 55k miles, and service history.

AND, even worse, the first time I ever even SAT in a 911 was when I picked it up to drive it home !!

But, having had it checked over by a local independent, it seems I've been lucky.

The sensible money says invest in an inspection of course, the cost of inspection vs new engine rebuild, no brainer.

I had been speaking to the guys at eporsch before I got mine and was about to buy one from them but then the dark blue C4 came up. and well, I just had to have it. lol

You'll get a good one, theyre out there

Try and arrange to meet up with a 964 owner who can show you what the car is always about before you start seriously looking. This way you can note down all the little idiosynchrosies that they have like how the dash board buzzes after you've turned the ignition off, the smell of oil wafting through the cabin, how the oil level gauge drops into the red when on the move and much, much more. Things like this would worry you when looking at a car when actually they are completely normal :p .

Of course to do this we need to know where you are. On the slight chance that you're anywhere near Surrey see the thread in this section about a meet on October 14th when you could go and see a gaggle of 964s all in one place and meet lots of knowledgeable owners :D

p.s. when you get one you may spend the first couple of weeks thinking "what the hell have you done?!!" After that you fall in love with it :D

cheers steve,
I am just around the m25 in hertfordshire so that meet is a distinct possibility.hope to see you there. :D

Bassplayer,

Good to see someone else local.

As I'm sure has been said above many times, PPI and leakdown test!!

You might also want to look on the classified adds at pistonheads, I've got my last few cars from there.

Happy hunting

madmoog how local are you ? if you have a 964 can i come round your house and play?
seriously though would much appreciate a chat with old hand (so to speak) close up view and any tips.

If you're likely to be in the Cambridge area, more than welcome to have a look at mine. Although its currently having the roof repaired after some clumsy builders knocked a metal fence onto it! Should be back this week though and I've also just had the seats restored, they look really good!

thanks jay,
might be a bit far as i have a lot on at the minute but i really appreciate the offer. BP
