Am I right in thinking Porsche use Dot 4 fluid as standard on 996s? I need to bleed the brakes and obviously don't want to mix types.

Stats007 - I think I read in the manual it has to be Dot 5. My Golf uses Dot 4. I would have thought superior machinery such as 99x's uses the top of the range Dot 5 stuff.

Dot 5 is silicon based and as far as I know Porsche don't recommend using silicon brake fluid at all - mixing it with polyglycol fluid can render the brake system useless :?

OK seems 5.1 is back to non-silicone and safe to mix with other polyglyols.
