DME Relay problem

My porsche 964 1991 C2 has failed to start. I traced it to the DME relay and found this was the problem so replaced it with a new one. 50 miles later the relay packed up. Does anyone know what would cause the DME relay to keep blowing?

could have been faulty, has been known to happen, they can last 150,000 miles or not is the case
