Asking for some info from the TT owners on here.

Now I know the basics, service history, colour, milage, condition etc etc however I'm going to look at a car on Thursday that ticks almost all the boxes, good colour, Bose, Sat/Nav good milage, in warranty etc (only thing it lacks is sports seats but I can always change those at a later date if necessary)

However is there anything specific I should be looking at or for, I have not looked at a turbo before so am not 100% sure

Any advice gratefully recieved

Over and above the standard checks I don't know, isn't the car pretty similar to a C4S so a lot of the same should apply. Big question is what to check around the engine and I can't help there I'm afraid.

Sorry.

Agreed. Get the 111pt OPC check to confirm the basics and make sure that the warranty is also with Porsche. Unless you can get it on ramps and understand what additional to look for on the engine (intercooler piping etc) then you are not going to see much from the engine bay.

Take it for a good hard drive and see how it performs under boost. You will know if there is a major probem but highly unlikely if fully serviced.

If you are not grinning or shaking when you bring it back....don't buy it :D

Make sure the brake discs have plenty of life- new ones are ££££.

Check the rear seating area- I found on the C4Ss I looked at, this was the area that seemed to get punished the most, maybe people dragging luggage in and out of the rear seat area and the trim can get damaged, inc seat backs. This is easy to overlook.

Check the clutch- apparently getting the engine at peak torque in 3rd and flooring it will reveal slip, as well as being quite good fun!

I'd not be hung up on the sports seats- in many ways the standard ones are better because you have electric memory adjustment which is deleted on the sports ones.

Also worth talking with indi's - I'm the middle of a concerted search and found best advice so far from Shirleys of Meriden. Carl Ives there was brill... Also they have 'tied' relationship with specialist service and prep thecars nicely... Seems to be lots out there and due more with lots of 997 upgrades on oder so I'm told.. Obviously depends on yor location... Good luck and keep us informed.. The differeence between C4S & Turbo is amazing, TT for me for sure..

Well, now back after seeing the car :)

Had a long (about an hours) drive on everything from town traffic via B roads to the M11.

An amaxzing experience, so tractable and easy to drive in town with a lovely light clutch but sooo fast when you go for it. The sensation is unlike anything I have experienced before, very smooth and linear but very very quick.

Its recently had tyres and a 48k service and is under OPC warranty

Car has every option I want and is in lovely condition. I will hopefully be arranging Peter Morgan to inspect it properly for me.

I too yesterday did a couple of test drives and was absolutely staggered at the delivery of the TT power.. I had previously decided Tip was what I wanted, but I agree the manual has so much torque and the light clutch and feel is just sublime so now I'm open to both Tip & Manual.. In fact confused if manual is the way !! Although what's the point of 1st !!

I have also today spoken today with several dealers (OPC & Indis) and the opinion is that there will be several Turbo's coming on the market which should be good for prices (if you're buying) That's the good news the bad news is that my 98 C2 is not commanding what I expected.. c'est la vie..

Good luck

One of the reasons I'm not taking over my pals, is that he is concerned about what is going wrong on it. So putting aside the fact that I wouldn't/couldn't match the dealers bid, make sure whatever you but has a Porsche warranty. Repairs can be big bucks!

Get an inspection.
Make sure you get the OPC warranty.
Watch out for upgrades and chips, since these will affect the warranty, but OPC can tell you about these if they see the car.
IMO get a manual, and get the X50 engine upgrade if you can.
Don'y pay extra for PCCB's.

No special issues to worry about. They are pretty strong.
As long as it is sound, then enjoy.

Car I am looking at is manual, has OPC warranty and appears to have been properly cared for, not X50 and has steel brakes. It also has PCM/Bose/Heated seats, has done less than 40k and is a good colour in and out. Inspection is booked for Monday :)

Best of luck with the inspection. The 996tt IMO is one of the finest 24/7 cars you could possibly own. I have had mine for almost 6 months and have loved every single drive in it. Can't see myself getting rid of it until I get green taxed out of it.

Thanks, I must admit when I started to look for a new car I initially looked at a pre face lift C2/4 then just carried on going until I was looking at a C4S, on realising I could have aT T for the same money my focus changed

It will be my everyday car, and is likely to do alot of commuting in London, however I managed that ok in 993 C2 for 18 months so I think the TT should even easier with all the mod cons
