Has anyone suffered an engine cover release cable snapping? And if so how did you get the cover open in order to carry out the repair?

Heat the area of the release latch with the hair dryer then pull the cable with the comb

Cheers Dick. I was talking about a 964 hence the reason I posted this serious question in the 964 section

Thanks for the advice.

We didn't find anything in the manual so the owner is going to get his local specialist to sort it before I pick her up :)
. I thought any information I could get to pass on from knowledgeable 911 owners now might help shorten the delay in getting my hands on my new toy. :D

An update on this in case anyone falls foul of it.

The car didn't have an emergency release cable behind the light. It was supposed to automatically spring open if the cable snapped. It didn't. However a bit of pressing, pulling and general jiggling of the lid got it to pop open. Fitting a new cable (less than a tenner) and adjusting it took 10 mins tops.

With that resolved, I bought the car :D
.

Moral of the story - makes sure that cable is kept lubricated and the locking mechanism greased.
