PCCB problem

Considering I have not yet been near the track with the GT3 I have to sadly report a problem with one of the PCCB discs.

Unusually, its the rear driver side disc which has a small chunk missing on the outer edge, approx 2 cms long, 5 mm wide and a couple of mm deep approx. I have been to OPC and had some pics taken and also have talked to a very well respected GT3 specialist who gave me some very good advice and that it was probably a fault rather than anything just unlucky or poor driving. Also added that the pad overall still supports braking and it should not be a problem.

However, depending on OPC ( you can guess what I am thinking) it would be a very expensive replacement for me to pay or upgrade to a complete set of alternatives, which was on the cards for later in the year.

I will keep you informed, but would like anyone who has a rear driver side PCCB going spare to give me a PM.

Off to Malaysia and Singapore tomorrow so wont worry for a week or so.

ps. my free boxster test drive day was canx due wearther but a 997 C2S day is going to replace it - so not all bad.

delamination

Once that starts, pccbs should be replaced with steel discs unless you want to pay for a new set of pccbs

that's why one should never pay a premium for a PCCB equipped car. It's not an issue of if, but when, they will fail.

will be looking for advice and options on which to replce with - mostly road work, a little track, so some pricing would be greatfully received.

Richard,

short answer Alcons....cheaper than Porsche disc & better....JZM will do them for you.

and with your car having PCCB's your only option (apart from PCCBs) IIRC is the JZ Alcon upgrade, however it is not recommended to leave PCCB on the front with Steel on the rear, total cost will be circa £3500

I don't think Alcons are a necessity on the rear. From a cost perspective, I'm not sure if rear Alcons or rear Porsche OEM are cheaper.

But I would deffo recommend the Alcons on the front.

I don't think Alcons are as expensive as Poon suggests... IIRC, about £1k for the pair of front discs...? You can re-use the yellow 6 pot calipers with the Alcons thereby saving you £££.

Just checked my bill from JZM £1600 for front alcons & pads, alcons alone were £1355
