My search for a 996 is becoming more serious and i have found a nice car for sale @classic chrome in London (1998/ Artic Silver). The car looks great from the outside, drives great, but the interior shows that the car is actually 8 years old. Does anyone know of ways of improving the interior???

Any opinion on the car mentioned more than welcome..

thanks

Marlof

Previous experience means I wouldn't buy anything from Classic Chrome.

why not??? They will give 6months guarantee on the car.

The older 996 interiors don't seem to hold up particularly well but I have seen some nice ones in the past, so there isn't a need to compromise unless the asking prrice is seriously cheap.

All of the pre-facelift versions seem to show a lot of wear on the entries as the materials don't seem to be good enough.

But this one is described as immaculate throughout so why isn't it?

Stats, if you want to say anything about CC, can you do it by pm please rather than posting it up on the site to avoid any accusations of defamation.

There are some good treatsments now that you can use to make the leather more supple and get rid of some of the lines. I use Zymol treat regularly and and it has made mine much nicer.

I think leather rejuvination has been mentioned in the past but can't remember the details. Plus if it is that bad, just buy new seats. Probably only £1K. Even if it is mint, wouldn't pay £25K for it though.

Just my two pennysworth and not aimed at classic-chrome per se ... I would not look at buying a 996 of that age from anyone other than the porsche specialists like cridfords or paragon. And read the small print of the warranty - you might find that there is a per hour labour charge that they will pay abd you have to pay the rest and yet it has to be carried out at porsche garage. One example i had of this was the supposedly cast iron RAC policy that only pays up to £50 per hour !!

Notice that the classic-chrome car is a tip - is that what you are after ?

Colin ouch... And there's me asking Marlof if he want's my early Silver 98 996 ?? So does that preclude any private sale of older 996 ?? Mine is full OPC 11 point checked when i bought it etc... The scare mongering of having to take £1000 a year warrenty deffinately questions Porsche credibiity.. Having had seceral sporty Merc's SL's SEC's etc.. none of 'em evr missed a beat,,,

C'est la vie..

BTW anyone want an older 996 I'm your man !!

Rob - I did not mean to imply that buying private was a bad thing !! I meant to say that if you buy from a dealer that is not one of the recognised specialists do not expect that for the extra money you might pay against private sale will be well spent. A private purchase if the car has sound provenance is good value!
