oil pressure gauge

1999 996 pressure gauge goes straight to 5 bar on turn on stays there when started and doe's not deviate from 5 bar i suspect faulty sensorsome say its a curse to get to any thoughts please

5 bars when the oil is cold and thick is correct I think.
Once warmed up, it should show 1-2 on tickover, but go up as the revs rise.
If it does not drop even when warm, then the sender is most likely faulty.

I would have thought a reading of 1 when oil is hot is a bit low... normally the OPG shows just a smidgeon over 2 when the oil is hot at tickover.

Oil pressure will vary on most cars from on car to the next, depending on the milage 1 bar is ok at idle but should rise when engine speed rises. If the gauge goes up and down with engine but with a delay in movement the most likely cause is the sender in the engine.
