Ok guys,

I have a 996 Carrera 4S and I'm going to blow some money on a new suspension, I've been looking at a proper Porsche X73, Bilstein PSS9 or H&R with GT3 swaybars. Has anyone got any other views? I know the Super Manthey Bros (whilst rescuing Daisy) will recommend the moustachioed marvel but I don't have a crazy amount of 10p's to put in the slot.

I'm looking at blowing about £2k on it, but recommendations, advice and preferably someone who's done it.

Will that lower the ride height Damian ?

Not got a clue which is best - but if you can get some aesthetic improvement that'd be nice too !

adjustable H&R's get my vote, may not be KW quality but good enough and you can get the entire anti-roll bar package and bits for the roughly same price

have you checked you the carnewal catologue ?

If you aren't spinning, you ain't trying hard enough! :D

Thing with suspension is what you intend to use the car for. H&R, Bilstein PSS9s, JRZs, KWs are all superb bits of kit - but the difference is who sets it up and how well matched are the settings for the kinds of roads/tracks you'll be using the car on.

Any of them can be equally bad if setup incorrectly. Some are more biased towards smooth billiard board roads/tracks than others.

I went with the Manthey KWs (+uniball mounts) because:
[u:t6gKfmowPO]* they are fully 3 way adjustable and can be adjusted on the fly
* they are revalved and tuned specifically for bumpy fast road driving - be that at the Ring or around England
* KW quality is superb and TUV approved
* Olaf Manthey knows a thing or two about performance tuning for Porsche 911s
* they were recommended above others by several people who had more experience driving different setups on the GT3
* they were recommended and can be fettled by my local garage (JZM)
* Manthey KWs are highly respected and they will not detract value from my car
* most importantly, they work as intended

But that isn't to say that H&R and Bilstein wouldn't be a good choice either - both have been extensively used on the 996 with great success by countless others.

Imho, saving a few ££ on something as critical as suspension is not worth it. We always talk about the handling of our cars, and suspension is absolutely critical in the equation.

Clearly not taken too late that one, there's still some wine in the glasses & the beer has only just come out & no sign of spirits. :)
