18's on a 964 C4?

I am sure a lot of you will frown at me at even suggesting putting 18's on a 964 C4, but I am just researching. :)

If I were to fit 8x18 Front and 9x18 Rears on a 964 C4 what size tyres would I need to run, 225/40/18 front? rear? Would the stretch over the 9 affect the 4WD at all? and last of all are there any other mods that would need to be done, other than perhaps coilovers, or decent suspension.

Cheers

Jay

you might have to watch the diff with a C4 running on weird tyre size combos..........not as much as the problem is with a Calibra turbo(where you have to replace tyres in sets otherwise you knacker yer diff)................you also might run into probs too Insurance wise by using too narrow tyres to whats recommended.....IIRC the back of my 993 C4 has 255's and tbh I would'nt run anything less

this was info i got from a mate of mine who's pretty technically minded

"The 911 has the same system / issues. A 4wd 911 relies on having differing wheel diameters front and rear to keep the VC pre-loaded to a set amount, designed into the diff. Then, as the rear wheels spin up, the fluid heats up more and transfers drive to the front. Same principle as the Synchro system sending it rearwards. On a 911, if you dyno it on a non-synchronised 4wd dyno you can literally cook the diff...and blow it, as the rear wheels spin under drive, the VC gets too hot...and fails."

obviously you still are running the same diameter wheel, but the profile needs to be taken into consideration and also the tyre footprint is also quite important,as tho its 4WD its very rear biased so you narrow the footprint at the rear your affecting its traction/handling characteristics

Jay,

Ask these guys:

http://www.ninemeister.com/

Or Rennlist 964 forum. 18s on the 964s I've seen tend to be on Carrera 2.

Rodders, your rears will be 265s.

ya sure......mind i'm narrow body......cos they're only 255/40/17's and they're the same as the Colour Coded Cup2 wheels n tyres that I took off to replace with the Cup2's n tyres I'm running

I am running 265's on my narrow body with a Factory lowered Chassis, it looks tight, but it has never rubbed..

Check this for information

18s were never approved for the 964 except the 3.8RS and it does put more strain on the body than is recommended. However it has been done by some people. Personally I like a nice set of original 17" Cup 1s on a 964. 993 17" Cup 2s also fit. Both use the same tire sizes.
