Hi All.

Brilliant info on this forum, decided to take the plunge and now I need a bit of advice please - I'm looking to buy a 996 and can't decide between a C4S or a Turbo. I'm looking at a 02/3 model C4S or an 01 turbo or adding some extra £ for a 02 model. I use the car every day and would prefer a manual over a tip. I currently drive a BMW M5 and would be interested if anyone has any views on driveability etc as it seems quite a few M5 owners use their's everyday with a Porsche for weekends? Cost wise how does a C4S stack up aginst a turbo in the running/servicing stakes? Think I need to go OPC to get the best but any specialists you may recommend that come with a full Porsche warranty? Are there any options that are essential? I reckon the sports exhaust and PCM will do but should I bother with these? Loads of questions but any advice gratefully received.

Many thanks

Bry :?

They are both a great drive - have you driven either one yet? I think your right with the PCM and the PSE - both are great options and will aslo be great for resale.

Can't comment of the drive of a turbo as I have not been lucky enough to have a go in one yet. Start at the OPC to get test drives then look around indie's as well until you find the right car.

Happy hunting!

1. The TT has 100hp more than the C4S..what more is there to want to know?

2 The reason said people use their M5s as an everyday car and the 911 at a weekend is.. cos sorry if i offend but an M5 ain't that special not compared to a C4S or a TT!!

3. As far as running costs go they are very similar however depending on the mileage of car your looking at, check if 1 of the major services are coming up, cos at this point the TT costs will be a lot more than what is basically a normal 996 3.6

4. With either of these cars be sure to have the Porsche ext warranty, IMO the £725 it costs a year far outweighs the possibility of your pride and joy going bang! And you could be lucky and live close to a good OPC like Chiswick they seem to have quite a good rep on here. (OOPS just noticed your in Berkshire not sure what the OPCs are like there).

5. I almost guarantee your car will come with PCM anyway, so no worries there

6 Yes the sport exhaust from Porsche for the TT is very good and unlike the C4S will give you more hp. Stick with a recommended Porsche exhaust or it could void your warranty.

7. Welcome to the forum, nice position to be in

Regards

TT !!!

The TT will go down as one of the all time greatest supercars in the fabled lineage of Porsche Turbos. Turbos are a Porsche speciality. The TT remains the benchmark for all supercars in terms of usability and capability.

[flame suit on]
The C4S will go down as just another variant of the 911.
[flame suit still on!]

Ohh dear Aidrian,

now I am upset,

The 996 C4S, is probably the best looking 911 ever, and without doubt the best looking 996.

Be honest do you not think that it is an all time great, if I stand my car next to a 997C4S, mine looks miles better.

Just winding you guys up... indeed, the C4S has that phat ar$e that is quite gorgeous... but come one, the guy is comparing it to a TT... ! 8)

TT = fast Turbo wide body
C4S = slow Turbo wide body, isn't that right Daz

get a C4S and you'll always yearn for a TT

get a TT and you'll always yearn for a GT3.

Trouble is only the truly gifted can own a GT3

Hmmm you guys are both right a TT now represents the ultimate value for money in the used 911 market, except possibly a GT2..

I do love the look of the 4S.. it was my first choice before i came to my senses :? :D

Daz will let you know at Llandlow if the 996 looks better than the 997..i do believe we have a 997 C4S coming, quite excited about this as iv not seen one up close yet!

Just noticed the GT3 crew seem to be all ganging up on poor Daz!

All we need now is for Rob J to chime in with one of his usual pearls of wisdom...

Hey guys, I can handle it,

I need back seats, and whilst a turbo would be great, still dont like the cuts in the wings or the spoiler.

Ideal for me would be a C4S, with the GT3 engine

Job Done

Well nothing more for me to add except I'll offer Mfire a drive when I'm back as he can't be too far from me then we'll have another convert to the GT3 cause.

Daz quit whinging about rear seats you've got 2 other cars anyhow for when you need to transport the tribe, go get a GT3, you know you want to. Just think how much happier you'll be not worring when your RMS is gonna go pop again.

Regarding OPC's in Berkshire all depends where you are. They are all AFN, and it's either Reading, Guildford or West London depending where you work or live.

And the offer is ther Mfire if you wanna see what GT3 is like. Poon, you use yours as a daily driver don't you?

Rob, yep mine is a daily driver.

Daz, get a 3 with comforts and retro fit rear belts and seats.

mind you I have got 3 kids and the BMW transports them well enough. If the 3 had rear seats I would be tempted to take them out in it instead of the BMW and that would be silly, putting miles on a GT3 when I can only drive like Miss Daisy because of the precious cargo.

Hence me installing a half cage! The rear is dead space might as well use it!
