That looks a nice example in the picture. Why not that one?

Unfortunately sold to another buyer when I was on my way to the dealer. My offer to outbid the buyer was politely rejected. If it had still been available, definitely would've bought it. The one that got away.

Thanks guys. I've been checking on the sales site here, Top Marques and a handful of other usual places, and have come very close. I checked out a C4 advertised in Top Marques, but the seller misidentified the color, and his 18" wheels turned out to be aftermarket and too wide for the narrow body. Ray's is indeed beautiful, and my friend Kate adores it. I'll be in touch. How fussy is the black colour?

Frankly I had my heart set on polar, so if anybody happens to stumble across one, please let me know. Finder's fee negotiable, but at least a couple of pints and a ride (though naturally not in that order).

Whats your budget?

I'm ready, willing and able to pay full fair market value for one ranging from very good to mint condition, but I'd even consider one with a few dings, scratches etc. if it has retained its charm.

Ray's is metallic black..........which IMO is the best black to have.....totally awesome when its shiny!!!......although as with all dark paints it'll be a nightmare to keep looking clean

If you dont mind me saying, thats a politicians answer
, us normal folks normally have an amount in Guineas, Pounds shillings and halfpennies in mind

Hendo, your "politician" barb stings, but fair enough. One of the smaller specialist dealers sold the polar silver one in the photo at top for approximately
£
27k with about 85k on the clock. As a non-dealer, I would describe its condition as good, but not very good. The interior was fairly heavily used, and the broken door catches hadn't been repaired yet. I felt the price was about right, but not a great bargain. I'd be willing to pay a similar price for a similar car, or
£
30k+ for one in materially better shape (eg, Ray's).

(I'm afraid I couldn't find a pounds-to-guineas converter on the web.)

£30k should buy you a minty narrow-body.

Have you actively looked at private sales? e.g. Porsche Club GB mag. It may sound silly, but the best cars tend to be sold privately as the owners have spent a long time seeking them out, cherishing them, and are usually loath to px it or trade it out to a dealer and would rather see it go to another enthusiast.

With the cash saved, you can get round the warranty issue by getting it inspected and warrantied by an OPC!

30k should bag you a mint one (private sale) with new clutch, new suspension, fresh front end repaint, perfect provenance, no stories, with sports seats. Mileage should be <45k miles.

I wouldn't pay over this for anything else if it's a private sale. Dealer sale? Maybe 32k but I would expect it to be in perfect condition.

The dilemma you must be aware of is that at these lower mileages, the clutch and suspension will need seeing to very soon if not already done. Clutch + Suspension = £3k.

If you went for a slightly higher mileage (say 60k), it's likely that the main items will already have been done, other smaller items sorted, and you'll probably save a packet too.

Just my £0.02

Many thanks Robert, OC et al. I've just joined Porsche Club GB, but as I don't expect to receive their magazine for a week or two, would be most grateful if a current member could glance at his/her issue.

We're getting warmer . . .

Is the light grey the most common interior on the silver 993s?
