Who's better for a 993 Parr or JZM

I need to know which garage people would recommend out of these two

Parr or JZM

My car has a few gremlins that no one can seem to find. And that I have put my hand in my pocket to have fixed.

So with my warranty expiring in 3 months I want to get everything sorted.

I just want a company that can actually fix the car as opposed to just guess what’s wrong and letting me pick up the tab! I tired of being told its fixed just for it to come back again.

Any input would be great

50 50 either way :?

go for the one easier to get to, so if you have to go back it's then not too far to go !

I live about 15 mins from Parr, and will be booking my C2 in next month for a service...

She has been serviced at Northway for the last 6 years, would it be better to carry on using Northway to keep the Hisyory in one place or have Parr look after her from now ?

The Hour drive to Northway is not a problem !

I think I’ll go with JMZ, after talking to the Joanna (I think) for 30mins he instilled confidence in me. They have all the equipment to fix problems rather than the hit and miss fix approach that leave ones wallet hurting. Plus they are nearer to me.

As for Northway they were used to fix some problems on my car, (plus they added a nice big scuff to my car that I only noticed the weekend after getting it back!)

Now I’m off to JZM to get those problems fix again…

But I’ll leave judgment till after JZM give their verdict on Northway’s work

so you would not use Northway again ??

What was there work like ?

So to hear about the scuff..

I think Northway are fine for servicing and the easy jobs. (Kind of like you local GP).

But when you have annoying elusive niggles on a very complex and old car I think you need a consultant not a GP

Northway are friendly and helpful. I think they just don’t have the gear to do the more complex jobs. Servicing, discs, oil changes fair enough.

I feel let down by the fact they said they could fix it and obviously they weren’t equipped to do so.

As for the scratch, that just peed me off. I’m hoping when I have the car detailed that it will buff out. But what can you do? I didn’t make a point of going around the car with them before and after (its my fault for blindly trusting them)

Mine is needing a 12,000 service, air-con re-gas and she has some clonking from the front, which you can feel though the steering wheel. I am hoping its bushes or a top mount !!

When you consider the calibre of technicians they have at Northway, I'd disagree with you smtk. Aside from the many years of Porsche experience they have between them, one of the technicians was one of the most respected techies at Porsche Reading. When I popped in there recently they were rebuilding 4 engines, including one out of a 996TT. What makes you say they can't handle complex jobs?

So you would use Northway ? did'nt you but your car from there ?

(And why you not coming to the Track day ?)

Dan, yes I bought my car from there. I was told about Northways a few years back. One of my good friends runs a 993TT and won't take it anywhere else. I've met many other very happy customers which gave me confidence to deal with them. They have a good reputation in Porsche circles. I'm a bloody fussy customer, so it's not easy to win me over - I've got no complaints whatsoever with my recent dealings. You pays your money and you takes your choice...

Well for one my car has been back to them 3 times for the same problem (engine check light). Spent a bunch on parts and the problem still comes back.

I asked them to sort out a boost problem. They report a pipe had come off and put it back on but the car still doesn’t boost right.

I had my suspension fitted by them and now at high speeds I get vibration/shuddering (worst through the steering wheel). They used OPC reading to do the alignment and some one else to do the wheel balancing which isn’t ideal as they rely on their subcontractors to do a good job.

Like I said I think they are good guys just there work shop isn’t fully decked out with the tools for the jobs they take on.

993 2s can I ask what work you have had done by them?

Sorry Dan, not on here enough to know about it

When? Where?

smtk, understand your frustrations. Have you been back and raised this with them? I agree with you on the alignment side of things - but I guess they still have good links with Porsche Reading which is literally 10 mins up the road. Have you managed to sort the boost problem out with someone else? I know from my mate that it's a common problem with 993TT, and often difficult to trace in "one hit". I'd suspect any specialist would have a sequence of things to check and renew. I've only had my 993 for 11 months - my experience of them is limited to pretty run of the mill work as, touch wood, my car has been pretty reliable. Others I've spoken to have had much more extensive work done and have been happy. I've got no link with these guys btw, I just think you're under estimating what they are capable of doing.

its a long read... but you'll get the idea after the first few pages..
