Air con 'popping' noise

I have an 03 996 C2 when I start it up from cold I get an intermitent 'popping' noise (best description I could think of) every 3 or 4 seconds. It souds like its coming from the air con but I could be mistaken. It then disapears when its warmed up.

Is this normal, and the air con adjusting to the temperature ?
