Just plain weird

My '02 C4S has recently developed a very strange habit. Once the car warms up (say 15mins driving), if I switch the engine off the car will not restart. The battery seems to drain and the engine won't turn over. The alarm also seems to randomly go off when I try to start it. If I leave the car for about an hour it starts OK. How weird is that? Anyone else experienced anything like this? or ideas of what it could be?

An alarm/immobiliser problem? Sounds like one for the dealer or a specialist.

Was the alternator, which is being replaced, at a cost of £600. For a car thats only done 23k miles, thats ridiculous. Anyone heard of Porsche volunteering to pick up part of the tab? (VW did when I had a problem with my golf that was just out of warranty)

Glad you identified the problem. Sorry about the cost... As for P picking up even part of the tab, ya gotta be kidding! They're renowned for being stingy, even iro much newer cars. Yours is at least seven years old and sometimes things just go bust. There's a case for low mileage not being good for cars. Not saying that's the source of your problem, but low miles doesn't mean always fault-free.

Ah, the joys of owning a supercar!

postamble();

Try Porscheshop's website at:

www.porscheshop.co.uk

They were listing alternators on an exchange basis for £227 + VAT....

They can be phoned on 0121 585 6088

Hope this helps (I too got ripped off by Porsche for a new alternator last year)

Marc

Surely an '02' C4S is only 3 or max of 4 years old!

Door lock mechanism went on a 4 year old boxster a week after I bought it :(
. AFN Reading suggested putting in a goodwill claim i.e. you've got nothing to lose, Porsche ended up covering the part cost (£300'ish) with me picking up labour cost, about £90.

On my current car I've also had a claim under the bodywork warranty covered (on an 8 year old car) for corrosion at bottom of windscreen A pillars - a common problem on 993's.

If you took the car into OPC for repair you've got nothing to lose by putting in a goodwill claim.
