Morning all,

I have the chance of a 1990 964/C4 "TARGA", 3.6, 80,000 miles (FSH), 3 owners, in red.

Any advise on what this is worth, and will it be alot different to my old 993 ?

Happy New Year.

Dan

hi dan,
i recently sold vgc fsh 993c2, guard red 120k miles for £17k to a dealer, who i believe moved it on for £18.5k.

if i were buying a 964 provided there were no oil leaks and it was a straight car, i would be looking to pay no more than £15k, but it would need to be a nice one for that money

its all on condition ,
i turned down a 964c4 1991 in red coupe nearly 4 years ago for £12k!! car was a dog!!

My bro in law bought a metallic blue '90 C2 116K for £13k, pretty good one as well.

C4, Targa, red, not the best specs to get top price

what do you think mick, it seems the old 3.2 can command a better price than a 964, even though a 964 gives a very similar experience to a 993.

would you compare the997 to a 996 as say the evolutionry jump similar to the 964-993 or 993-996
eg significant but subtle or simply huge.

no offence to pre-GRT owners but i think the non GR targa's look hideous

I think 3.2 already command higher price than an equivelant 964, good news to those who're not scared by the rumours. Iused to be one of those who thought I'd bever touch a 964 until I looked into it closer. 964 is actually a much better car than 3.2 in many ways, but the 3.2 is simpler and cheaper to maintain.

I think the jump from 964 to 993 is a bigger jump than 996 to 997, after all 993 has a whole new rear sunspension set up. But then according to Porsche, each generation is 80% new!

what about the jump 993-996,
if porsche hadn't would they still be here today or was it the 993 or bixster that saved them.

sorry guys must explain the bixster was a little known model that was very popular with shavers!

993 and 996 IMHO are totally different cars, both have pros and cons, and I think it's the biggest jump. From what I could understand, 993 tie things over, saved another day and Boxster / 996 put Porsche into profits.

mick,
ironic that the 996 an box sold big numbers when 993 was the better sports car!!

one to chew on, if the audi tt had come out four years earlier would por have made it, box was the right car at the right time, and money would have been there for a 993, 996 regardless .
