Hi guys!

First post here! Looking for some advise from the people in the know. I would be sincerely grateful!! - First 911!

Here's my woe:-

I aquired an 1987 911 3.2 Carrera ( genuine 57,ooo miles full PSH) from my brother. It has been lying out of motion for about a year. It would not start and he has been working away a lot, so he was recomended to a so called "german sprecialist in Aberdenn, who kept the car for 5-6 weeks and gave it back to him running with a bill of £800. It was the flywheel sensor apparently! 5-6 weeks to find that out???!!!***** eh!

Since coming back from them, It has developed a leak in the Oil Coller Pipe in font of the driver side rear wheel, the Clutch is now slipping, and when depressing the Clutch Pedal to the floor, I'm getting a loud "grinding" noise.

I've put the car into a friend of mine who also works on mu Audi ur-quattro, and whilst he's no 911 expert, he's a very decent solid Mechanic. He reckons that the pressure plate is hitting something as that's where the noise is coming from.

Can someone please confirm that:-

1. This is an Engine & Gearbox out?

2. How long should this take?

3. How much/where's the best place to obtain parts (Porsche quality just not prices)

4. Are there any do's and don't specific to this operation?

Many thanks in advance for any responses!

Ta

Norman

I believe the grinding noise is "usual" when the clutch goes on a 3.2, so it is likely to be a "normal" clutch replacement. Engine out I think - down South about £700 (maybe plus VAT!) all in from a specialist.

When I had the back and front oil pipes done on mine (also a 3.2 not that it makes any difference) it cost £500 ish all in with labour (down South). There is a middle section which was judged to be okay. My front ones weren't leaking but my specialist thought they were on last legs and if they go the oil system empties over the brakes.....

I'm no mechanic as you have probably guessed but my specialist did suggest the oil pipes can be tricky. The rear ones screw into a (soft aluminium) oil thermostat which is expensive. If you try to unbolt them you can shear the thread on the thermostat which then needs replacing. His solution is to cut the pipes just ahead of the oil thermostat and do a plumbers style pipe joint to avoid the unbolting.

I'm sure there are lots of people on here who can give more detailed advice to suppliment my amateur rambling!
