996 mileage adjustment

I'm just trying to get my head around how mileage affects a cars value. Most 996's have done less than 60k miles but as they get older we will start to see higher mileage examples where thay have done astonomical miles.

What is the difference is price between 2 1998 C2's where one has done 20k miles and the other 60k miles (but all other things being equal)?

Are the mileage adjustments published in Glass's or Parkers good to go?

Without wishing to become the font of all wisdom like one uxbridge based specialist

One of my phrases of advice is

" Its not so much the car you buy today, but its the car you have in 3 years time that you have to sell that determines your depreciation"

What I'm trying to get at is

You buy a 60,000 mile car today whats it going to be worth in 3 years time with 90,000 on it?

you pay more for a 20,000 mile car but when you sell that in 3 years time with say 48,000 miles its going to be worth more and someone is going to want it i think the first question someone asks when you sell a car is whats the mileage

and thats the difference in my humble opinion between a car that will sell privatley for mor than what your offered in part exchange

My theory my opinion, and i allways advertise the mileage

where as one specialist wont even tell you the mileage untill you get there

but then i service my cars and have a 111 Point Porsche approved used car inspection done before you see it

Thanks mark very articulate. I have to agree with you 100%. Shifting high mileage metal is always very difficult ( as I recall trying to sell my 100k+ miles BMW ) there just weren't that many potential takers.

Look at the ads and compare different cars with different mileages. Spec will make only a small difference. If you take off 15-20% that will give you the trade figure IMO.

Thanks Robert.

Been looking at the ads and they don't make much sense ! Prices vary by several thousands of pounds without eny clear explanation of what causes the difference, of course people price at whatever they think they can get. With the oversupply of 996's there are a couple of cars that have been in Autotrader for several months and still not shifted (both trade and private).

In my experience of viewing s/hand cars, the number of previous owners seems to be a major factor in the condition and the way it's been looked after.
