Finally after what seams like a grueling searching game I picked up the local paper whilst in a traffic jam and there to my astonishment was the first car I looked at still in the Porsche specialist garage but with 1k knocked off the price... Brakes on -"U" Turn, into the shop and I'm now waiting delivery of my first ever Porsche! With a bit of haggling they threw in 1 year warranty and a personalized number plate… 911-71 (which is apt as its my first one and the year I born!...).

26.5k, 1999, 911, Jade green, 66,000 Kilometer, three owners from new, full service history.....

Big thanks to all who have managed to contribute to my posts in an effort to help out with the buying advice…

Looking forwards to taking delivery on Sunday

Mark

Yeeha - Another Mark with a 996 ! I feel a movement starting

(Movement - a gathering of like minded people, not the bowel motion variety  )

Look forward to seeing the pics

Well What can I say I'm still totally confused and lost and worried to a degree!!

After having my 944 for 2 years now (a beutiful almost concours car) I just have to have the next step.............. a 996!!

Well it is for me... long story!

However finding ones becoming a nightmare but at least Mark has proven it a possibility!!

Ok soooooooooooooooooo how much did you cough up Mark?

All responses appreciated!!

Cheers Guys (and girls if any post comments!!)

David

David, confusion........I can tell by your message.... :?
..but why? And worries...there are so many myths. I have owned 964's, a 993 and now a 996 - all great cars with their own problems. If you want a 996 - go for it, they are great!

Not quite sure why finding a decent 996 is a nightmare?

Personally I recommend Autobahn for an excellent choice, good service and reasonable prices - check it out.

Nice one Mark. I've had mine 6 months - just been out for a run in it & still love every minute.

Good luck with it.

Now if I read the post properly I would have seen the price!! Thanks anyway Mark!

As to confusion etc welllllllllllllll...........

As you read various articles about 996 ownership you begin to pick up on the "minor" problems with them. ie engine problems with earlier cars?!?! or is this an urban myth? Door hinges ok minor problem but..........

Depreciation? a 993 or a 996?

What I guess I really need is another £20-£30K to buy a brand new one to my exact spec! Any donations kindly accepted!.

In the mean time I'll browse till the right colour/spec/mileage and all those bits appear.

I set myself a £30K budget..ish so theres lots out there but they all seem a bit different! Mileage. spec. colour (ok I'm being picky) but hey that £30k is a lot of dosh for me!!

Couldn't agree more about Autobahn. I bought tge 944 from them. I popped in the other week and went out in a 996 that was ok but not exactly what I was looking for!! ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh such a shame.

Also PCT next door are very good. friendly Knowledgable and you actually have trust that they are doing a proper job.

All in all I can't speak more highly of Autobahn and PCT ... now if they just get that ideal car in........I can then go out in it rather than spending hours looking for one!!

Hi David,

You do realise that Mark is in Dubai, so every day at the moment will be rather sunny!! :D
....(and verrry hot!)

Looks like I may be selling my 993 this week, so I'll be on the look out for a 996 soon, although with my wants I'm discovering that I may have to wait a while! (Arctic Silver, PCM sat/nav, Sports Seats, Sound Pack, black leather)....clear lenses and GT3 wheels can be added by me.....if anyone sees one like that...please PM me. Thanks!

Oh yes- its hot., 43oC here today with 95% humidity!! unbelievable and summers just started!

you do read various articles about 996 ownership and yes-"you become paranoid" but if you follow the guides and buy sensibly then fingers crossed all should be ok...

There's always going to be that "nightmare" car whatever the make....... Believe me I bought one once. Thought it a good idea to buy a run around in the uk instead of spending 1grand every time I came home. There I was driving down the m40 1 week after I got the car and BOOM.. the gear box broke into small pieces..... It cost me 1.5 to fix it!!.. Wish I'd read up and done some homework back then but there you go. You live and Learn!

Will post some picks as soon As I have it.....:) Its like waiting for father christmas....haha

Mark

I finally got it after an agonising wait!! Couldn't register the car because the traffic section implemented new software and it crashed their current system for 3 days!!

pictures to come.....but here's a sample :)
