Respray Conundrum

Hello

Advice re resprays required.

I've a 964 C2. In good shape according the specialist that looks after it.

Recently, the bonnet was scratched by some workman. So, that needs fixing - with my funds and a contribution from those who did the damage (I hope!). A whole other story. Anyway, the cost of a bonnet respray is a few hundred quid.

Whilst getting the quote, I did start to think to the other bits of the body that could do with some attention. Couple of bubbles around the back windscreen, same at the front windscreent and some general chips on the nice protruding bits!

My question is - will it pay dividends to get the whole car sprayed such that those little bubbles don't become issues. Or am I kidding myself?

I don'y plan to sell the car and I understand that a I probably wouldn't recoup the whole investment in a repsray if I were to. But will it save me from bad body work trouble in a couple of years - we've all seen those really nightmare 964s that have got holes where they shouldn't?

Look forward to a healthy discussion.

Richard

I don't think you can justify it entirely on a commercial basis. Personally, I would get the work done. Some of the money you will recoup when you eventually sell and some of it you will recoup in the pride of ownership and enjoyment you get from having a pristine car.

my thinking exactly.

i'm still not certain i can justify the car (even though my estimates are that it costs nothing more than running a modern Golf GTI overall). However, that's not the point really. Just looking at it is enough, and then there's the noise. I still haven't got over it really.

are my worries about bubbles founded. or am I worrying unduly? they're not bad, but i know they are there and i guess that means the galvanised shell has been comprimised.

my mantra with the car to date has been to spare no expense.

I reckon that with a well made car and good car that it will go on and on! my lambretta (1958 scooter) is still going strong with the same policy, and that wasn't that well made really.

do others follow a different policy (e.g. upgrading or run into the ground)?

still interested in my "bubbling bodywork worry" question...
