Hi everyone..been looking on here for a week now and thought it was time I registered. I drive a BMW 528 1999 (No jokes please) and have a couple of questions for you guys. My friend has a 1999 T 996 Carrera 2 manual, 60500 miles FPSH, GT2 wheels. He has offered it to me for 26k. This appears a good deal (he owes me some favours) but is it really? He has had it 3 years and had a new head fitted 12 months ago after some problem..just had a service, 4 new tyres etc. So I was wondering if its cheap or not and what is this RMS issue...(its blue with sports seats by the way). It would have the Used Porsche check done by him and I would be buying the warranty. All help appreciated. Thanks

Without checking prices, it sems a reasoable buy, esp if it's eligible for a Porsche warranty. I'd say an independent dealer would be asking circa 30K, or a bit more.

Check out other ads to get a fix on prices. RMS? Search on here for details. If the car has had no problems to date, I wouldn't worry about it. See also the thread on 996 engine problems.

You can extend the manufacturers warranty up to 125k miles or 9 years old. To get a car back on the warranty if it has lapsed off, you have to get a 111 point check done by an OPC, and pay for any remedial work immediately to bring it up to spec. You can have a specialist for servicing if you want, but you'll have to pay for the 111 point check again each year. The 111 point check is just over a hundred quid, and the warranty is £725 plus VAT a year.
