Middle East 993 turbo...good or bad idea?

I'm looking at swapping my C4 for a LHD Turbo I've found but it is a Middle East car. It never actually made it out there as the purchaser changed their minds and it stayed in Europe. The 'bumperettes' have been removed from the front but remain on the back. Apart from that it's immaculate and it's a '98 S model which are rare I suppose.

Is there a stigma attached to Middle East and ROW cars? Should I be worried about resale values?

Thanks

They all come out of Germany, you will buy it cheaper than a 'UK' model but you will sell it a bit cheaper as well. Personally, I would go for it - as long as the car is good!

I think I may have misled you, the car I'm looking at is LHD. It's at Camtune in Surrey.

oh sorry, I think there is nothing wrong with an import, as along as you remember "you buy it cheap, and you sell it cheap" you'll lose the same money as buying a UK car, but have to spend out more in the first place...

If its not a lot cheaper than buying a UK one, walk away..

Just IMO, but I'd worry about the Middle East climatic conditions- v hot and dusty can't be good for a car, either mechanically or cosmetically so I'd want it checked out.

But if it is the car I think it is, it looks great value compared to a RHD car.

err robert - the car never got as far as the ME -see the first post. :)

Thank you for that blunt but fair assessment of my literary skills!

I've had a proper look at the car now. It DID go to the Middle East and it did 5000km before it was even registered...very strange. Seemed like a good car but I'm not brave enough.

Not n Camtune's interests to sell a duffer though. They've a reputation to consider.

Get it checked by a good specialist.

I can't imagine Camtune would sell a dodgy car, but I think the price reflects the difiiculty they're having convincing people of the history. They've been absolutely straight down the line with me.

The history is very thorough AFTER it came to the UK which admittedly was only a year after delivery to Qatar but I've been to Middle East many times and I've seen how they drive
. In it's 35000 miles it's had 2 gearbox rebuilds (one was 3rd gear only) and a turbo.

I think it's probably a good car for the money but as I said I'm not brave enough!

Fair enough. At the end of the day it's your money - and your risk of having to spend more... It's gotta feel right for you.
