Hi Folks,
I'm looking to buy my first Porsche. I specifically want a 993. I've found one locally - a C4 on 1996P. Only 24000 miles with full Porsche service history - all MOTs etc etc. Price (~35k) seems acceptable to me given the mileage and history and I like the independant garage that's selling it and feel comfortable doing business with them.
While I'm pretty knowledgeable about cars in general and a true car nut, I know little about Porsches. For background I have a 1998R 250hp turbocharged MX-5 that's in mint condition that I'll be keeping. I modified this car myself three years ago and it remains utterly reliable. I've been very involved in that car's owners' club and contributed and benefitted greatly from the community, both real and virtual. While I'm very familiar with getting my hands dirty, I do NOT want to modify the 993. It's essentially my dream car and I want to make a good purchase. Essentially at the moment I know little about Porsches (although I'm researching all I can right now) and I'd like to be sure I make the right decision. So in short, how may I get a worthwhile inspection done on the car I've found? I'm reluctant to go with the more mainstream services such as RAC/AA given that I seek, presumably, specialist knowledge.?What do you guys recommend? I'm in the South West by the way. The car I have my eye on LOOKS wonderful but I'd like to be sure...
P.S. I bought Peter Morgan's 993 purchasing guide so at least I'm familiar with the basics...
