hello

Can anyone advise what are the official front & rear tyre sizes for the 993 on both a 17" alloy wheel & 18" alloy wheel set up.......

as i'm seeing a few differing tyre sizes out there, all prob' still within the 5% size range, but just need to know what is standard.....

cheers

Official tyre sizes are in the owners handbook!

Tyre size is also determined by the body (wide or narrow).

C2S is 285 / 225 on 18"

Stevo - In my handbook there is no mention of 18 inch wheels as they were not an option.

18" wheels were never originally approved by porsche for narrow body variants - they are fine and i get no rub or anything - the ride is fairly harsh but hey it's a sports car!

you can have 30 or 35 profile i guess for the rears - i wouldnt go for anything over 35 though - they may rub the arches if they are any bigger!

My rears are 285/30 18" and front 225/40 (couldn't remeber profile before)

Well here goes...

from the Porsche 911 Carrera/911 Turbo manual which came with my 993 1997 targa standard body width

summer tyres

front 205/55 zr 16, rims 7j x 16 H2, rim offset 55mm

rear 245/45 zr 16, rims 9j x 16 H2, rim offset 70mm

or

front 205/50 zr 17 rims 7j x 17 H2 rim offset 55mm

rear 255/40 zr 17, rims 9j x 17 H2, rim offset 55mm

or - only for the coupe!

front 255/40 zr 18 8j x 18 H2 rim offset 52mm

rear 265/35 zr 18, 10j x 18 H2, rim offset 70mm

"The authorisation of tyre and rim sizes is granted on the basis of extensive testing. Your official Porsche dealer will gladly give you information on any authorisation status.Refitting with sizes not authorised by Porche may have a dangerous effect on the driving stability."

Note that I bought Veloce F1 wheels (18 inch) after I got the car because they looked so horny - see pictures in the Monaco folder and Porsche folder on the site below.

But guess what - I am now running the origional 17 inchers - I dont like the harsh ride and tracking across motorway lanes to follow lorry ruts! My Peugeot 307 is more fun to drive than the 911 on 18 inch tyres!

Ok those ratings I gave above for my C2S are the actual ratings printed on the Porsche sticker stuck inside the pasenger door so to recap for the wide bodied Carrera S (2) with 18" Turbo alloys:

front : 225/40

rear: 285/30

result !!

I knew you all had the answers !

but 44 psi on the rears of a 285/30/18..... ouch ! that had got to hurt over bumps !!!!

I cant even bare to run more than 36psi on my current 225/40/18's on my TT
