Changed the fan and altenator belts on my '92 964 last week, following the pelican parts technical article. All was fine til this morning, and the ABS/ ! /Battery are blinking at me intermitently now, sometiimes with the warning buzzer. Belts are fine, no slipping, roller on sensor fine, could the altenator be tired after 160000k's or have I upset something? Anyone had any similar faults?

Allan,

I've got a similar problem on my 993, my handbrake light and -!- keep coming on intermitently. I've check belts etc... too. Going over bump's seems to make a difference with my problem (so I think something has come loose).

Will get this sorted next week and post here what problem was. It might help you...

Allan,

Just got the problem sorted by local OPC. Turns out the sensor was faulty and was replaced. Cost about £40.

Looks like mine may be a little more expensive! Battery not charging, so pulled alternator out yesterday, now off to get it tested to see if its the regulator, or need replacement alternator.

Best of Luck !

I had a similar problem with the battery not charging on a previous 993. The thing finally stopped turning over (not enough juice to create a spark) half way down a mountain up in the Lakes, at night. Ended up sitting on a wall for 2 hours while the RAC man tried to find me! - Turned out to be a problem with the fuse box itself, the specialist I took it to, said it was common with some 911's. Had to have it replaced...
