I'm going to the Trade Centre Wales next week to have a look at a 52 reg 996 C2 12k 49,995. The guy I spoke to on the phone had a real 'Del Boy' attitude and wasn't that helpful. I wanted to know if the car has PSM and he assures me it has. Is there anyway I can verify this? I'm taking my Dad along to check it over (OK a bit pathetic girly I know) but he's a mechanical engineer, and the dealer was more interested in telling me the colour of the interior than anything else! Some men seem to think women shouldn't be interested in cars!!! Has anyone had any dealings with this company

? All help gratefully received. :)

Once you're there you can tell the car has PSM because there's a "PSM Off" button on the dashboard. For me at least it's obscured by the left side of the steering wheel rim if you're in the driving seat.

Before travelling I would ask the seller for the reg of the car and where it has been serviced and phone Porsche and ask them if it has PSM. I'm not sure if they can give you that sort of spec info from the reg, or if they need the VIN (which the seller might be unhappy to give out to just anyone). Some Porsche dealers won't tell you anything because they say they are breaking data protection rules. I was able to determine the exact colour of my car and confirm the service history from a Porsche dealer with just the reg.

IMHO, the more people you take with you to look over a car, the more chance that one of you is going to spot a problem.

There should be no reason why the seller should not give you the VIN after all when Porshce look up the info on the computer they do not have to divulge anything about the Owner(s) only the car details and spec.

Since the VIN these days is visible through the windscreen anybody could note it down and phone up and enquire about the spec and history of your car. I wouldn't want a potential thief to know the exact spec of my car down to the alarm system and whether it has a CD autochanger to nick out of the boot.

Thanks for the help. I'm having a test drive Tue and will check the usual details like service history, ownership etc. If I like it (got to see what I feel about the boxster red interior) I'll get an HPI check done. It's too much of my hard earned to mess about!! I'm not sure how much flexability there is over the price, but I'll see what trade in they'll offer for my Jag. Still, we women invented the art of negotiation!!

Best of luck with it. I've been fortunate to get an 02 996C2 for a week from 3rd party Insurance while my 99 C4 is in the shop with a door dent, and it's a superb car, especially the improvements in the engine tuning dept over the pre-facelift model. The PSM does a great job, and IMHO is essential with the C2 in wet weather unless you take it easy, which is difficult when the 3.6l engine just begs to be driven hard all the time. Great car.

Doesn't seem to be the sort of car they usually stock. I hope it's in better condition than the rest of them. My only experience with The Trade Centre Wales was losing a deposit
.
Whatever the salesman may say about returning your deposit if any work required does not meet with your satisfaction - DISREGARD IT - they stick rigidly to the printed policy of "Deposits are only transferable and not refundable" even if the salesman appears to endorse a vehicle order form to the contrary!

Good luck

OFT REVOKES SWANSEA MOTOR DEALER'S CREDIT LICENCE

Swansea-based motor dealer ***** ***** has had his consumer credit licence revoked following action by the OFT. The OFT has also refused an application by ***** ***** for a consumer credit licence. ***** ***** is a director and company secretary of ***** *****.

An adjudicator revoked and refused the licences on the grounds that ***** ***** had committed nine offences under the Trade Description Act and, in committing those offences, had engaged in unfair or improper business practices. In addition, the applicant failed to declare
these convictions when applying for a credit licence.

The adjudicator was not satisfied ***** ***** or ***** ***** was fit to hold a credit licence. Accordingly, ***** ***** licence was revoked, and the application by ***** ***** Limited was refused.

And from http://www.dti.gov.uk/ccp/topics1/recentcredit.htm

Consumer Credit Act 1974

All I can say about this outfit is I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole. The whole trip to see the car was a waste of time. They didn't have the correct paperwork for the car (alarm bells start ringing at this point). No-one was sure about how many owners or any other details, other than 'it looks really nice'. When I said I wanted an HPI check the guy showing it to me got very stroppy and said they only dealt with 'trustworthy' customers.???? When I said I wasn't happy about the lack of paperwork, his response was to walk off telling me that someone else was 'seriously' interested in it. Best of luck to whoever that person is.

How can they be so thick as to say they "only dealt with trustworthy customers"?

They had just proved that it was they who were UNtrustworthy - what they really were meaning when they said that was that they preferred only to deal with customers who trusted them! Big mistake it would seem!

A better bet would be to go to a Porsche showroom or one of the specialists for second hand cars - there are lots in the magazine "911 and Porche world".

If you buy from someone unfamiliar with the car then chances are they wont fix the little problems you may get and god help you if you have a big one.

There are plenty of facelifts around. You can get one for 50k or under from an official dealer with a warranty(I think?).

Search on this site under '996 c2' and you get 9 results between £33k and £51k - including some great GT2 kitted ones etc. -

Good luck and try a few before deciding - beware because they are all absolutely beautiful!!
