air con pump

Since last week my air con pump has started to make a 'metal rubbing' noise after start up. This goes away after about 5 minutes. The air con still works.

Can this be remedied by simply topping the system up or am I looking at replacing the pump? Or have you guys got any other suggestions?

You're not telling me that no-one else had problems with their 'achillees heel' porker A/C? I can get a used unit from Douglas Valley for £225 plus VAT - then fitting costs.

Still no alternative ideas?
