hello all and thanks for all your replies to my numerous nocive questions from before !!!

i am now looking at a 911 E 1969 (i know you all say a 3.2 but i like the old ones!) and it is RHD and £7500 which seems realistic...its from the ads on this site actually..trouble is it is white and i am considering some work and a respray as its quite cheap......

do you have to go to a specialist or can any good reputable body shop have a go....i dont want an A1 concours car....just metallic blue , rust done and have a good service at Jaz maybe

any thoughts chaps ?? !!!

Sounds almost too cheap - be very wary! Getting this one checked out by an expert is an absolute must.

As for re-sprays I have seen Langley Autocraft recommended by several people - they are in Kings Langley in Herfordshire (3 mins from the M25) tel. no is on the v useful specialists page on

. The also carry out normal servicing work but are mainly a body specialist. The added advantage is that they are almost slap bang next to JZ Machtech (I should know as my car recently died outside their workshop on the way to JZ!), there are few better places to have your car tickled (although they are not the cheapest.) But given what you look to have saved on the purchase price it would be worth your while paying to have the best servicing.

I second Jamie's "expert advice" suggestion. It does sound very cheap. You want to check all the obvious things - matching VINs, engine numbers etc - first.

Regarding a respray, if it was originally white I would leave it white. Unless you do a bare metail respray (££££) it will always look like a resprayed car - there will be little white bits all over the place - under the engine lid, in the front luggage compartment etc, and changing the colour of a car always detracts some value from a car. It aslo raises eyebrows about what it is trying to cover up. I am sure the colour would grow on you anyway.

I would want to know some more about the sporto conversion though. I understand it is meant to be pretty simple but you would want to be sure a good job had been done.

The early cars should have the engine compartment and luggage area painted matt black. This makes a colour change much easier, but as James says it may reduce the value.

Get a professional Porsche speciallist to do a PPI, rust on these early cars is evil, and can be difficult to spot.

"just metallic blue , rust done and have a good service" could turn into several thousand pounds, so be warned!

Dark metalics are fashionable at the moment but remember so was Guards Red in the late 80's, colour fashions change in cycles people will soon move onto a different colour range. The next owner may be looking for an original early car which yours wont be if you paint it. Early porsches are more valuable when they are kept original. Always buy on condition not colour.

ey what's wrong with Guards red?.... lol.....one of the best body shop's in the country is Roger Bray Restoration ..he exhibits at the PCGB concours events......paint like glass...a respray will cost £2/3000.00 he's on 01404 822007
If you are buying any Porsche you either need a stack of bills from the previous owner , a service hisory or both....unless it is sub £5000.00 walk away if it doesn't have them..if you can do all your own mechanical work ok , but if you have to use a 'wrench' forget older cars you'll end up bankrupt!
