You can get discreet crossover installs and discreet/unbranded grills, example below:

Bought mine from Gert/Carnewal. The fit is good and the grill looks standard. There is a little badge I think can be removed.

The old aftermarket MB QUARTZ speakers in my C2 have started playing up and shorting out, I think because of water getting into the back of the speakers. I've bought a set of coax Alpine speakers for the doors and parcel shelf from amazon and some waterproof covers for the rear of the speaker.

Will post some photos later this week once installed.

I got Morel at front which actually fitted under the old grille but went with the new ones (looks almost identical). At the back I have JBL GTO, ditto look.

Received and fitted some Alpine coax speakers this week, there are some pics on my Instagram @gws911. I'm very impressed, and better than the B&O system in my Fiesta ST. The rears almost slot right in and all you need to do is shave a little plastic off the inside of the housing. The fronts slipped straight in. I also added a baffle behind the fronts to stop water getting to them.

£100 all in which isn't too bad for a full speaker set up that sounds great and looks stock.

Did you keep the original tweeters?

The new coax speakers effectively have tweeters mounted inside them so I removed MB Quart tweeters and didn't replace them. I've ordered a 65mm plastic disc to cover the hole this has left.

I've got the exact same speaker setup with Morel fronts & JBL rears. Sounds great combined with a Continental head unit

Gather you can now buy new original rear and front speakers from Porsche for 993's. Pricey I believe and would be intersting to hear if any one has fitted them.

I've that head unit (Dab?) is there any wiring to be done when replacing the speakers or is it just plug and play?

and another question - does this set up require a subwoofer or do the speakers give sufficient bass?

I have a sub fitted (and an amp).

The front speakers have crossovers fitted so I'm not sure if it's just plug and play. I didn't fit them as they were in the car when I bought it.
No amp fitted but still sounds good with the Continental 7412. It previously had an Alpine HU which did sound better but looked naff.
