Worth checking this...I noticed last year when I was doing my winter jobs that the Flex Joint was slightly split and showing some signs of wear and as I had a slight vibration when driving at speed I had already decided to replace it as this was the last rubber joint that hadn't been changed out.

Quite and easy job to swap it out for a new one, even with the car just on blocks. Once removed I was totally shocked to see just how bad it was...split all over and about to give up :x

My garage spotted mine while replacing coffin arms, tuning forks and transmission mount on my C4S. It was similar condition to yours and was changed, part was only 80 quid. I suppose that if the coupling does let go the damage is catastrophic. I've never heard of it happening though. Have you?

Not sure what would of happened if it had gone completely :?: never heard of it.

This is im afraid an item thats hard to see on a service even with the undertrays removed .. which lets face it is not done at OPC or at an indy on anything other than a major service .

i've seen far worse which are still intact and have given no indication of a fault when driving .

In short .. i've never seen one break apart .. i'm not sure they can without you having plenty of notice so a check is good to catch these early but dont panic after reading this post :)

This is on my list of jobs to do next summer along with a full front suspension refresh.

Is the flex joint available as a generic spare, ie. Febi-Bilstein or similar?

Yes very cheap as a febi-bilstein, like under £20 from memory.

I tried to replace mine but couldn't drop the prop off the donut. Luckily it looked in good condition so i just left it.
