My status as a newbie is a little inaccurate, i just spent a while away from the forum as i'd sold my 997.1 back in 2009 and hadn't visited much since then, so lost my history but was still registered.

I've never stopped looking for a replacement 911 since then, but we've had kids, moved house and suffered some serious illness in the family, but what triggered the desire most recently was my best mate getting his 3.0SC back on the road without telling me and the jealously being too much to handle.

Initially i wanted an AirCooled car, anything from 1980 onward really, and looked at all sorts of cars. I flew dangerously close to the Gmund fiasco, and wold have been his last victim by all accounts, having been promised a full engine rebuild, suspension overhaul and general tidy on a nice 964. Something didn't feel right, and thank goodness for 911UK for their members. Ironically the other car was from Specialist Cars of Malton and that hasn't turned out so well either, based on some members' experiences.

Budget, courtesy of Jamie Garside at Eurolease London (very good guy), was creeping up and having been spooked by the early cars i started looking at 997.2. Mixed experiences there with some dealers being significantly more open and genuine that others, but everything changed when my wife agreed to sell our Defender 90 and use that as a deposit and one car had been in my mind for quite some time, and that's what i ended up with.

So, off to Edinburgh i went to view the car, and it was in great condition. It was well priced and came with OPC history, as you would expect with a 2015 car, but also had the balances of the OPC extended warranty, so the deal was done and the car purchased.

All i can say is wow. I wanted a 4WD car, which some will agree and some will disagree with, but rices were still silly compared to a 2WD version. I haven't done much with it yet, as i plan to get it PPFd this week so didn't want to damage paintwork, but it's not going to be a show pony, i plan to load it up and use it, regularly.

Spec works for me, and although there are a few things i would have had in a perfect world, it has all the bits that matter:

991.1 GTS, PDCC, LED PDLS, PSE obviously, Full leather (alcantara is a mare to maintain), Bose, Carmine Red and no sunroof. She looks beautiful in my opinion and a trip to Precision Porsche for a quick once over confirmed she's sound and ready to enjoy.

I'll post pics when i know how to!!

Looking forward to seeing those pictures. :thumb:

In an effort to keep her looking as good as possible, i went and got a Bigboi BlowR Pro to try and eliminate as much contact with the paint work as possible, and who doesn't love an unnecessary toy for their new car!

I am going to wash the 911 tomorrow, but i have tried it on my Discovery, and first impressions are amazing.

I am going to do a little review in the Detailing section, but for anyone who enjoys washing their car, this is a serious good bit of kit.

Ceramic coating, or maybe even PPF, are on the cards and this will make washing way easier with the BlowR Pro, but once i learn the nest way to get the most of this thing i's going to save a huge amount of time, i think. Plus, no more drop marks once you have dried your car!

It was good to meet you, Ian.

I got lucky that morning, all the cars in the workshop were silver, black or grey, so the red did stand out. I think it's a great colour, but my wife isn't fussed and would have preferred the usual colours.
