I'm dont know if this is a common failure but i found this when changing my air filter. Looks like a PO or garage had tried to remove the front half without removing the clips, cracked the rear housing and then botched a repair. The rear of the filter was held on with cable ties. No one incl last two garages servicing the car, mentioned the problem which i thought was a bit odd.
I've replaced it now with a second hand part, if anyone fancies having a go to repair this they can have it for the cost of postage!
