Ticking noise

At the weekend after coming back off holiday I've noticed a ticking noise coming from the engine. Heart immediately sank!
It's sounds almost like it's coming from the rear strut tops/fuel rails. Exactly the same sound on both sides. Got it up to temperature and it's still there, rises but the revs on the engine.
Car was boroscoped a few thousands miles ago and all clear. It doesn't sound like a metallic ticking, more of a plastic ticking (like a microswitch opening and closing rapidly).
It's gong in for a service next week so I will ask them to have a look while they are at it but I'm half worried/half ready to go and start taking it bits

...fuel injectors tick thus could simply be the noise you are hearing?
