Hi all

Whilst changing a bulb rear near side on my 2004 996 I noticed a ring / pull cable coming from engine area to behind the light unit.

Any ideas what this is for? I'll upload a pic if no one knows

Thanks

It's for opening the engine cover when the battery is dead.

That crossed my mind but the engine cover needs to be up to take light unit out?

You use a small plastic wedge to lift the light unit and hook it out .. it's the emergency release for the boot lid .

Not all models are the same , some are behind the PU on the n/s/r ... you have to bend the ally covers to gain access to it .
