Hi Guys, I have been the proud owner of an old (05) 997 for a few years and last year had issues with suspension (struts and sensors) that I had replaced by Porsche mid-sussex last year. I now need to replace the clutch (54k miles), and Porsche quote £1497.05 inclusive of genuine parts, fittings and VAT. However I have quotes from specialists more around £850 inclusive. My question is having always had Porsche repair the car and it holds a full service history, will getting the clutch done at a specialist effect the value of the car / it's desirability? Cheers.

As long as it is a reputable service then it makes no difference to the car's history

I agree, especially given the cars age.

For Ref I paid about £1000 at Revolution Porsche for my Gen2 clutch.

I concur. Makes no sense for a car of that age to have an OPC price clutch. There are many independents that can do it cheaper. As long as you have the receipts it's all part of its service history.

Even if you want to keep up service history at Porsche it makes sense to get this kind of repair done at a good independent specialist.

:yeah:

A good Indy is much much much better than an OPC. Mine doesn't go near my OPC, but then I have a good Indy :)

Indy all day long.
My clutch was replaced by Porsche 3 years ago for £1016. Seems to have risen considerably. Work was completed at Porsche Colchester. The clutch was £461 and the release bearing £118.

Whilst i'm obviously going to be biased here ..

Its nuts and bolts at the end of the day and it doesn't really matter who does it .

A lot of Indy guys are ex opc .. i am as are most of my colleagues .

You can have either non porsche items fitted or oem or supplied from Porsche with an invoice stating that if you wish .

i simply can't see any potential buyer quibbling over who actually fitted the items .

Also .. to be honest at the age of the car i would be recommending switching to an Indy for everything .. you wont get any more for the car with an OPC service or a well known indy imho ..

But it will be cheaper to run the car .

Any independant non porsche mechanice with half a brain can do a clutch on a 997. I just wished the muppet who broke one of the bolt holes on my 996 at OPC had half a brain :nooo:

Circa £600 for any reasonably priced decent mechanic to do it.

I take my car to a trusted indy over OPC every time , a clutch cost me somewhere between £900-1k a few years back but cant quite remember how much exactly. Btw Alex is quoting northern prices where they do the work for a lbs of dripping and a bone for the whippet :D

I actually got the price from Zingari (or Jonttt) I think for a Porsche clutch price. I paid far less than that.

Really the clutch kit itself is nearly £400 for a Sachs item on cp4l, i know a mechanic will get it cheaper than i can but a clutch changed for under £600 supper cheap. I did have my RMS changed as well with the clutch but i thought what i paid was ok but maybe i need to find a new indi :dont know:

I paid £220 for my sachs clutch + fitting.
