Morning all, just at the stage of considering a return to 993 ownership having sold my Tiptronic S back in November 2014!

I've been browsing the market and came across these two cars fairly local which I may be tempted to take a look at:

https://www.strasse.co.uk/cars.asp?car_id=401&page=2

https://www.rpmspecialistcars.co.uk/cars/porsche-993-c2-coupe-manual/

Ive used both dealers for servicing / repairs on my 993 previously and got on fine with them (update appears the second car has deposit placed).

Another perhaps more risky option !

Just seeking some advice if anyone knows these cars. Also on what to look for these days and price points for an entry level Carrera with sensible history/ mileage etc....

Regards.

Dave.

Obviously you've listed Manual & Tip cars, have you any preference? Manual cars will always command a premium like for like, however Tip cars have their following too.

Google "Motorhub" before considering the journey.

Thanks for that, I always got on fine with my Tip 993, however I do like manual gearbox's also. My rationale will be to select the best condition and value for money car hence keeping an open mind on transmission type.

Motorhub rang the alarm bells when the advert popped up, probably needs the asking price spending on it again to get something like!

I bought my 993 from Strasse in 2013 so may be out of date but my experience was very good.

Their principles then (may have changed ?) where:

- no SOR ie they by in the stock themselves usually from existing known customers and therefore known cars (they had too many problems with SOR cars)

- in house warranty, 3 months /3,000 miles ie they do the work themselves and don't palm this off on 3rd parties. This worked great for me and they even changed the air con evaporator on mine which is a massive job (was not holding gas)

- they did not over prep cars ie they where just honest sound cars and price reflected this ie tended to be a bit cheaper than the fully prepped cars at other car dealerships ie if your swayed by a 'professional £x polish" then they may not be for you.

The car they have advertised looks totally unmolested, even has the original radio etc....... 2 owners (first for 21 years), perfect miles (ie not too low that your afraid to drive it but you can happily put 3k on it a year of summer fun), great price given the above and in piece of mind of the in house warranty, I would have certainly gone to look at it if you don;t mind a tip :thumb:

911 Virgin have a 1996 C2 Tip, in Midnight Blue, with Hardbacks, 96k on the clock, showing as 'Due In' for just under 37k.

Definitely worth a look?

Good luck with your search!

Do non aircon cars come with the bracket for the compressor? I notice the red car has the bracket?

Nope. Looks like AC will have been removed on the grounds of "lighter weight"

Motorhub :hand: I'm sure they must sell some 'decent' cars but have a bad press. I didn't like their multi-storey car park showroom or get a good feel for the gaff. Whether it's a turd rolled in glitter remains to be seen. That said a good going over with a Colini stick, inspection and low ball offer could bag a '25-bag' car given it's been around their neck for years. Closer inspection needed.

Strasse car is too much dough for a Tiptronic as the perceived 'value' will get wiped off when you add the miles

RPM car looks good value compared to the above given its a Manual and has AC fitted (hopefully working)

Gents,

Thanks all for your invaluable advice and input.

Re Strasse, I used them for service/ repair work on my 993 about five years ago, got in with them well and always rated them. I think they have had the particular car in for several months. Will most likely pop down when I get a minute and have a nosey. May be some negotiation room on price. I'm in no rush at present.

The RPM car did look good value taking into account it's a manual, wasn't surprised it had sold.

Motorhub car could have potential if well bought, risky proposition but worth some careful examination! 25 bags :?:

Thanks again and will keep my eyes peeled!

I'm aware of a long term owner who has spent big on his car over the past few years, who is looking to sell. Car is unadvertised as yet. Silver, varioram coupe. Manual, black leather, hardbacks, 18's, air and hollow spokes. It's a C4. 130k owner wants £40k ish.

All the right work done by all the right people. If I were looking to buy I'd be looking for an enthusiast owner car. Where the urge to have the car perfect overtakes sanity.
