Hi y'all

On a similar but different note.!
Has anyone any thoughts on the Mclaren MP4-12c?
They are around the 80k mark, surely a bargain and cant get any lower.

A pretty rare sight with not many in the UK. I can not see it being a bad buy.
Any thoughts out there :?: :?:

Warranty and no independent specialists mean McLaren only servicing so you're at their mercy

:agree:

Cannot see them doing anything but keep depreciating so cost of ownership at all ages will be daft. They are great engineering exercises and quick on track, but you need to be going very quick to get any emotional response and that means a let down on the road unless you want to gamble your license.

I've driven a few on track and they are quick but forgettable if I'm honest....

Can they really depreciate much more?
I know they had a few issues to start with and they were sorted with I presume all cars having the IRIS2 upgrade and engine mod.
I do like the clinical side to the looks and they are a fairly dateless design.

Check out their YouTube channel, they have some good buyer's guide information on there. They can also sort out that exhaust sound for you if that is your thing.

Your dead right, the buyers guide is really good

Funnily enough I said that when they dropped to £90k last year. I told myself "They're at the bottom of the bell curve and will head back up towards £100k next year" as I toyed with buying into it.

I reckon, yes!

The Iris upgrade is the least of your worries on the 12C.

I started looking at the 570S for a while with a view to aligning things for a purchase this year, but then a certain green GT3 popped up for sale and put paid to that! I reckon it's done me a favour as my heart really is with Pork and with McLaren's plan for 18 new models by 2025 I can't see residuals being too solid on any but the specials.

That said, I guess it is possible that the 12C, being the first of the "new era" McL's, could achieve a sought after status. Unlikely though as, unlike cars such as the 911 which has a clear lineage of evolution, the new models tend to push down residuals of the older ones. The cheapest 570S I saw was £107k so another question could be when will these dip into 5 figures...

Just my opinion though, so counts for nothing.

Mmmm you may be right.

So does this mean the 12c is about to be an utter bargain.
I have not read anywhere any horror stories, yes a few niggles here and there and like our 911s if you don't look after them, use the correct oil etc they will cause an expensive break of the wallet.

Possibly - if you're lucky. On the other hand it could be an utter money pit or ticking time bomb. The 12C suffers gearbox / oil seal issues and apparently it's >£20k for McL to do the job. When I was looking I joined a McL group on FBook and it's amazing what "foibles" owners report / tolerate.
I've heard from a friend who's ordered a new McL that they will not take a 12C in px unless there's at least £30k margin in it because of the issues they have. I also heard (from someone on here I think) that a bodyshop they went to recently had loads of McL's there due to corrosion issues.

That make it worrying, hate these things that come out as never know how true they all are or exaggerated.
Certainly would put me off.
Have been looking and wondering about getting one the last few months over another 911 :dont know:

Agree with this... I've always wanted a McLaren ever since seeing the F1 when I was in high school but there are just soo many stories out there on how bad these cars "could be" that put me off.
But... now that there is an independent I could reconsider one day but for now I am really happy with what I've got.

This video (bit long and boring at parts) has some interesting insights into someone's ownership experience. Obviously, this is one person's experience and I am sure there are loads of good experiences out there too.

Indeed - funnily enough watched that yesterday. The warranties seem to vary depending on model and certainly make the Porsche warranty look good value!

I will have a look at that later thanks.
58 mins so it should say a far bit
