Having spent far too many hours browsing your excellent forum, it’s now time to dive in.

We are currently plotting a return Porsche ownership from a location which seems to be devoid of any dedicated service backup. Living in north Wales at the western end of the beautiful Llyn peninsular in Gwynedd, we are almost closer to OPC Dublin than OPC Chester!

We plan to buy a 997.2 and having browsed the forums we have already worked out where most of the best independent dealers hang out. Distance is not really a concern when purchasing, but finding some sound service options in the same country would seem sensible. We are not ruling out using OPC Chester, but a 200 mile round trip to check on a minor issue would be frustrating and perhaps quite expensive.

Therefore our first post is a call out to any forum members who can recommend a Porsche service indie or just a switched on motor engineer in either Gwynedd or Clwyd. Basically anywhere along or south of the A55 North Wales Expressway corridor. Once we cross the border into England the world would appear to be our oyster!

This one has already defeated Google, so it could be a very big ask indeed.

Fingers crossed
Michael

Hi Michael

I'm at the other end of the A55 near Chester. Personally, I use a local non-specialist mechanic, but the indie who people speak well of around here is RG (Bob) Lewis in Tattenhall.

I've been there recently - BMW, VAG and Porsche seem to be his niche.

That said, I would hope there is someone closer to home for you?

Prynhawn da Welcome

I have been a Porker owner since 2010 and unfortunately I have not come across anyone........but I have never really looked too hard.

My 1st, a 996, I through a few spanners at but the servicing I decided I wanted with the "stamp" in the book for the reason of residuals. I used Hartech which was a fair trip from Rhyl and a crap train journey when the car needed to be left.

My next was a 997.2 which I bought from an OPC and because of the warranty, had to bee done by Porsche. So I used Chester.
Remember the 997.2 has 2 year service intervals......so it's not too bad and they will supply you with a "toy" while your car is being worked on.

If you let Dai "the Spanner" near it, you will destroy the residual value and desirability.

My 991 I bought from Wilmslow and in reality is not that much more of a journey than Chester.

IMHO.....the occasional trip (mine is about 60mls) is not a very big sacrifice in order to drive the dream. Thumb

Hi, many thanks for your reply. In this modern t’interweb age the most popular options do tend to be easy to find. I agree that quality servicing is a key part of attempting to maintain residuals. We had already spotted the Llandudno event and plan to come across. It may be a chance to flush out some local knowledge!
