I've been pondering over this for sometime. Do I take the plunge and get a little more intake noise etc and possibly BHP?
Your thoughts appreciated.

Theres a very interesting thread about it from about a week ago. worth reading despite an induction specialist technically being able to demonstrate they dont add any power worth noting, I still personally like them and accept that they may not really add much noticeable BHP but the way the engine breaths better ,less wheezy sounding and a nice induction note is well worth the cash they cost. :thumb: :thumb:

Thanks Phil, exactly my sentiments.
The BMC filters do seem way more expensve than the K&N variant. Do you know why?
Any chance of the link to the discussion please?

Thanks Phil.
I had one in my previous 997 and it was around that price but I now have a 981 and it has two air filters
I think the best price is around £150 for the pair but that's shipped from Italy.

Ah sorry mate was basing it on the gen1 you had. yes if yours is a 987.2 if will be the twin oval type , think I managed to get them from Germany for £125 for my 997.2. and that was after a lot of digging around around £150 seems to be the normal sort of money. :thumb:

I agree with everyone else on using performance filters, I too have used BMC on a number of performance cars and agree they give no real power gains, however using them with other mods, exhaust, remap etc it all works well together...

I've found a pair of filters for £148 and they are shipped from Italy. Here in the UK sellers are retailing them for well over £200 :dont know:

I recall reading a comparison somewhere of these so-called performance air filters against the standard paper filters used by perhaps every car manufacturer in the world.

The short of it is that the paper filters are designed to capture the smallest pieces of dirt, dust and debris and are less likely to clog up than a filter that is covered in oil. Foam filters have larger holes which could let bigger particles into the induction chamber, oiled filters could create more resistance due to the oily film on the surface of the filter. Also the K&N type filters require regular cleaning otherwise they reduce performance due to the thick sticky mess that tends to stick to their surface.

I've also seen that the cone type filters actually have less surface area than the regular Porsche filters!

Regular paper filter changed when dirty or at the service interval is what I do on all my cars.
