i am looking at a 997 at the moment with 47k and has a good spec from a good dealer but it missed its first service.....should i care?

apparently it was owned by a LTD company and the fleet manager didnt manage the cars well and it was then serviced when the second and current owner purchased it.

service history as follows;

It was registered 29/11/2010, and has had 2 owners.

The service history is as follows:

1st service by Porsche Centre Hatfield - 12/05/2014@28458 miles (including brake fluid change)
2nd service by Autostore Foxton - 24/05/2016@38930 miles
3rd service by Autostore Foxton - 13/06/2018@45973 miles (this included spark plugs and brake fluid change, as well as new air conditioning condensers and a new bonnet release switch)

it might have been done and not stamped?

I would not worry as any issues as a result of that would have surfaced by now surely?

its an 8 year old car now but has lowish mileage and if its in good physical and exterior condition then no worries. am sure you love it and will ensure its pampered so that is the most important thing for buyers.

if it was a super rare GT and collectors car and not driven then it might impact values but its not.

It would worry me. No oil change in a brand new car for 3.5 yrs and 28k miles could well mean additional engine wear and trouble further down the line, not least because it gives an indication as to how much, or little, the first keeper cared about it.

As long as the condition of the car matches the miles.

You could ask for an ECU report to give you the engine hours to see if it tallys with the mileage.

Also.....

See if Porsche has any data?

Good luck with it :thumb:

with all the research i am doing i miss read it as 2 and half!!! thanks and i thnk you are right

A very late (time and mileage) first service, one OPC service and then 2 by a non-Porsche Specialist.

I think it would have to be very well priced to tempt most people on here.

If it's a standard car and could get onto the OPC warranty scheme ........ maybe ........ but otherwise I suggest that there's plenty of others out there.

Absolutely nothing to worry about. It has done 47k, if it is ok now then it will be ok for the next 47k. Bore scoring etc is not going to happen due to a late service.

I would tend to agree although it may be a problem for some which would become a problem when you tried to move it on.

Massively affects value though, plenty of cars out there with full history!

The engine would certainly be more worn than if it had been serviced at the correct interval. If they were so negligent to miss the first service, who knows if it was topped up with oil when needed!

Modern oils are far superior to old ones .if its the right price have it.

I would not worry at all. Just rember the price needs to reflet the service history, as when you will sell it the next owner will expect a discount too

Always puzzles me, stamp hunters, a ten year old 997 with a fully stamped OPC book may have visited the dealer only 4 or 5 times, say 3 - 4 hours spanner time each visit, spray of white grease to show the doors have been opened etc. The owner could then rag the tits off it for the next 10k miles and top it up with oil from Poundland and never clean it... but its service book is mint

You then get a car owned by someone who knows one end of a spanner from the other and takes pride in doing their own work, I know Kas750 on here is like that as am I and several others no doubt. Our cars will receive much more attention with greater care taken over the same period than a car sticking to Porsches service plan. My own car had 3 oil and filter changes in 700 miles, why, the oil was on offer, I had gen filters in stock and it takes half an hour to do, £50. I actually have my own stamp for the service book, it reads ' Owner Serviced , Genuine Parts" . I didnt stamp it all 3 times but the receipts are filed with the cars paperwork and date/mileage noted but I'm now getting the feeling this would terrify a potential future buyer 'Owner changed his own oil, will it need a rebuild ?" :D

I totally understand the need to know a cars mechanical history but to put all your trust in a series of dated stamps is wrong imo.

Cheers, Paul

That may be the case sometimes RUDDY but .........
